1969 GMC 12-09-2004 03:31 PM

here is a pic of my truck from the ebay auction...the hubcaps are the correct style but are not original to this truck.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...chmentid=59381

HOTFUN 12-09-2004 03:48 PM

My tires in that picture were stock 16" and I think are 7" but were from a 78 Chevy K20 and the tires were a rare one 31.50X 10.5 X 16. THe originals ones were of course the 16.5's. I just recently replaced the tires for some new take off 245/75/16 blackwall Firestones off a 2003 Chevy K2500 and it really looks bone stock. My hubcaps are NOS correct year GMC caps and the gold center hubs were my only choice from GM since they were the superceded number for the blue ones.

As we're shown these stock style pics, let's compare opinions on tire/wheel combo asthetics. I think that the stock rim looks we've been presented call for blackwall tires only. The white letters distract from the stock look by bringing undue attention to the tire brand, vice the stock rims. This is especially true for HOTFUN.:D Comments?[/QUOTE]

I disagree, i really like the stock look, with the modern look of white wall tires. I don't know exactly what it is, but it gives the stock look a modern touch.

Remember, everyone has their own idea of what looks "right" to them, and it is their truck.

Also, raised white letters began(factory)with"Wide-Ovals"on muscle cars from the same era as our trucks.I`d call it a sporty look.Lots of guys run RWLs on the SWBs w/rallyes for the"Muscle-Truck"look.My trucks have the stock look(blackwall). But I want one w/huge tires & custom wheels and other off-road performance enhancing mods, too.

Robert1970C20rstbukt 12-09-2004 08:25 PM

The original tires, either radials without tubes on steel rims or bias plys with tubes on split rims, didn't have white letters on 'em. Just raised black ones. Either way those trucks look awesome!

I agreee with griesel72 the stock oem blackwall Firestone LT245/75/R16 make the old 72 GMC look totally stock with a great ride for such a stiff suspension. I have the truck clip off at the moment to put a fresh 350 and rebuilt automatic in it and then she'll be my acreage truck. Now for my 72 original Cheyenne short fleetside in it's original factory finish of orange and white, I am going with a set of NOS factory 4x4 full wheelcovers that I have stashed away and 4 new whitewall P235/75/R15 type tires. And the factory alloy GM 15X7 wheelswith NOS caps from a 82 Chevy diesel 4x4 that I had stripped and polished to look like chrome plated with a set of 31X10.5R15 RWL Michelins will then go onto my 67 black 4x4 stepside when its finished.

Ahh,variety.

wow, great pics guys! I saw a stock 72 Cheyenne C20 the other day that could have been my trucks sister with stock wheels and caps, it got me thinking....

avejoe 12-09-2004 10:45 PM

I tried but I didn't get any real offers. I put it on ebay a couple of times but it didn't come anywhere near my reserve. I tried the trader also and only had one call. I'll just have to wait until I find a serious buyer I guess.

avejoe 12-09-2004 11:07 PM

Here's my 68 3/4, 4X4. It came with the 16.5 rims, which I have switched over to the early 80's 16" rim, and have 245/75 tires. Sorry about the paint job, some high school kids had it before me and put it on there.

4x4Poet 12-14-2004 02:24 AM

Those kids put racing stripes on a flatbed truck?! That's hilarious!

I'm surprised they didn't stripe the flatbed proper.

CG, stop by my office and check out my truck. I've got the stock wheels & hub caps. (same as cheyenne10 has on his truck, probably because I bought my Blazer from him). I really like the look and I've been thinking, when I get the money, I'll get the wheels widened and put a little bigger tire on there.

RANDY COX 12-19-2004 10:45 PM
