when was the last time you got a tetnous shot? wow........if you only lived closer to Idaho I would give you a 72 body and great frame just to help you avoid the rust repairs...I backed away from this one but it looks like it's off the showroom floor compared to yours....dang I have never seen a northwest blazer in that condition...good luck

Hey Luv, how much do you need? I checked it out tonight and found that the center looks pretty good, straight and no rust, but the outsides are wasted.
Let me know.

You guys are my heros, I would not touch that thing with a 10 foot pole. The best of luck to you there buddy. Why don't you spend more money on one in good shape then spending 1,000.00 dollars in replacement panels, time, money, mig wire, grinding disc, primer, sealer, undercoating, etc. You would save a lot more money buying one in better shape and starting from there.

One big reason for me is that I am a fabricator/welder and used to be a pipe welder. I have more consumables (aside from any primer paint......) than I have room for. the grand or more in sheet metal plus other parts to get it running will still get me under what an even close to rust free blazer would cost around here. South of me in AZ they know what there rust free rides are worth. Then add a ton more if the thing has a good engine and drive train. id be looking at close to 10 grand.

Mine has a bone stock but rebuilt 350 and a good drive train, all the outer sheetmetal has been replaced or patched. good top so I took it over the built up rusty ones or the high priced rust repaired ones. Plus when its done(this is the most important to me) is when I get asked did you do the work? buy it like that or pay to have someone do it? I can say HELL YES I BUILT IT and its EXACTLY how I want it.

Its going to be sixes on the money saving too. If planned out properly both ways can be cheap or expensive.

Jeff

Well put!

And in addition to that, it's alot easier to lay down 10 grand over a period of 2 or 3 years, then all in 1 day. I also looked at the route of buying something in great shape, but finding this is tough to do, plus everything I found from down south still needed inner and outer rockers and sometimes more, unless you've got 12 to 20 grand to spend, and I don't. But everyone is different and this just makes more sense to me.

Re: Got Rust?

Well, I have mine for $4500 and I'm in AZ. It needed rockers and a floor patch (gotta love the rubber floor mats!) I have done the Driver's side inner and outer, as well as the floor patch. I need to do the passengers rocker. It has a 454 and a 4-speed/205. It is an AC truck with most of the stuff there. I think building one yourself is great if you want/can finish it. I personally am ready to sell all of my needs a little TLC's for one I can get in and drive. $10 grand is not that much money, besides I've seen some nicer ones for $6500.

I'll be there (Phoenix) in Dec., maybe I can arrange to stop by and check it out, if you still have it.

You bet, did you ever get the info on realators in AZ. I was going to find some stuff, then guys from Tucson Chimed in and I figured you were set up? It is only going to be 113-115 in Phoenix today, so bring a coat with ya!! It is normally in the 80's up here, but we may crack a 100 but with like 8% humidity it is real nice!!

I had lots of rust on my Blazer too. I recommend the Rhino coating. See attached pictures.

Can't wait to go there. We're staying at the Fort McDowell casino just for a few days, but I will contact you before we head that way to possibly get together.

Did you fix the rust before you had the rhino lining applied?

I haven't decided what I'm doing with the inside yet...I have a considerable amount of time to decide though.

The donor needs inner & outer rockers and a firewall swap, but it beets the crap out of what I have. Thanks to Blazerb71 for the tub, doors and firewall. I'm finally starting to tear apart the rust machine.

Thanks...if you're ever heading towards the middle of the state, let me know, I believe I'm only about an hour and a half due west of Port Huron.

Alright...we need some current pics, we know you've been working on it.

Like the crate the tub is sitting on, did you make that?

Chevyman63 12-30-2007 03:10 AM

Re: Got Rust?

Yeah I built it, but after spending a lot of time measuring every mounting point on the tub and building that monstrosity, I think it was overkill. :dohh: But it did make a 6 hour trip without incident.

Up to date pics soon.

Re: Got Rust?

Thanks.
I picked up the tub from a board member in Iowa, so I wanted to make sure it would make the trip safely...and it did the job. I had the whole thing screwed down to a car trailer, a little much maybe, but it worked. :metal:
