Re: engine assembly code
OK, what you're saying is that it just doesn't come on trucks? Don't flame me, I'm just trying to clarify.

Re: engine assembly code
I am just saying the info you already have is just about all the info you are going to get. There is not a for sure 100% guarentee way to tell if a 67-72 chevy truck has the original engine or not because THERE IS NO VIN # ANYWHERE ON A TRUCK MOTOR.

I did not mean to shout. I was just trying to get to the point that Stope and Clay and others made earlier in the thread.

Re: engine assembly code
Thanks for the info, I'm satisfied this is the original motor.

Re: engine assembly code
I was going to say that I would be very confident that your engine is the original one. Too many things line up for it not to be.

Re: engine assembly code
This truck was a nice find. I've been dreaming about one of these since I was a kid.

Re: engine assembly code
FYI,
My 72 engine code is T1221TLM and my truck was assembled January 5, 1972 (from Build-Sheet). The "T" stands for Tonowanda, the 1221 stands for December (12), 21st (21) and the TLM is the correct code for a 72 402 with A/T and smog pump. By the way, my Protect-o-plate has the T1221TLM stamped in it. That's as close as you get to "Numbers-Matching" in these trucks. Did your look for the Protect-o-plate? |
Re: engine assembly code
You would need the protect-o-plate that came with the truck to determine that.
Chevrolet protect-o-plates have the engine number stamped on the POP to match the engine. But it seems that GMC would just say the engine size like "400" for a 396/400/402 and not have the stamped engine number on it on the POP. So even if you had the POP for it, it wouldn't have the engine number on it. This is all from memory so it may not be 100% correct. |
