I've built a lot of bumpers over the years. But now I want to build one to look more like the manufactured ones like Warn and Ramsey offered. I have a truck body fab shop that does what I don't have equipment for, like break work. I don't think they have a way to make a curved (form) c-channel. Does anyone have suggestions for where that could get done? I have another design in mind if I can't replicate the store-bought design. I think that first one shown on Lawman's GMC is a Ramsey bumper.

Back in the day you saw a lot of bastardized rear bumpers on the front of trucks with for winches. I am designing a front bumper for my truck. I have the behind bumper winch. The prior owner has cut the fenders in the front for mudders. So my plan is to wrap the bumper around to bottom of where the fenders are cut. I plan to use c channel. What I'm thinking of doing is cutting the out the top and bottom of the C, heat then bend. then cut some iron to the curved shape and weld back into top and bottom. But I'm thinking of doing a pretty tight radius bending close to a 90 degree. My bumper will have the c channel mounted to the frame horns because I don't need extensions, plus I won't need decking. But I think you can cut C and bend where you cut out to flat iron. Anyhow, I think I can heat and use some iron pipe as a die for the radius.

home made. I cut the frame horns off so that the upright portion of the push bar which are large L brackets of 3/8" plate runs 10"s down the frame rail and is sandwhiched between the frame and the front spring mounts.

Ya, nice bumpers. What gauge steel is the main bumper? Any chance in the next time you're under your truck you could snap a shot of your bumper and brush guard mounting to the frame?

The upright main L brackets are 3/8" which is overkill but is what I had laying around. The main face is 1/4" plate comprised of 3 main sections broke to shape. The anchor points are 3/8" that run through to the back of the main beams. And there is an actual reinforced winch box that sits behind the main face so the winch does not mount to the actual pumper face. Everything is gusseted as well.

On the rear, the box protectors on the side are load bearing.

I had made a crank handle for it by hand, it was more for looks but you could hand crank it if you dare LOL..

I used round or square tube stock for maximum strength. But, that limits to only angles. I would angle back from frame rails, then cap the top and ends (angle cut to align with side of fender) with diamond plate. I pie-cut at the frame rails, place an 8" cinder block at the center, hood a come-along to both ends, crank it in, and weld. Then weld the one piece diamond plate on top. I uses 2 x 6 mounted vertical. This time, if I use pipe, I'll do 4" pipe using the same method. My first bumpers were straight 4" tube. Did the trick and gave low resistance when run aground off of inclines. I'm going to talk to the truck body place to see if they have a way, or somewhere to send out, to form c-channel to recreate a manufactured (Warn) winch bumper look. I'll see what's up, then decide. I really like the tube idea but am thinking a Warn-like bumper will match the wrap-around Barten bumper on the rear. If I do the tube I'll do a tube rear

How did you go about bending the hoops for the headlights? Looks pretty thick, 3/8ths?

Here is a rough cardboard mock up of what I'm going to with mine. Going to have ½" plate mounting brackets extending off the frame rails. Then my winch mounting plate will be welded to those. Then I plan on designing it to have a bit of a rake angled towards the ground for better approach angle and sleeker look. All the playing besides the face plate will be 3/16" and the face plate probably 1/4 or 5/16. Should be a pretty rigid SOB
