So when do you want me to come by and get that ol' 383 and tranny out of your way? I'd hate for you to run out of room while you're doing the build.........

Re: Project - "The under funded dream" / phase III

LOL! Yes...I do need more room. But with the old frame gone I'll have room to work. Of course there is the time when everythings done...and I need parking space for two.

I honestly have considered selling the 383 and the tranny as a package...but its such a good motor...0010 high nickel block, 2.02/1.60 iron heads, 400 crank, Melling cam, etc (old school 383) I figured I could just keep it for my next project and I'd have the motor and tranny ready to go already.

Re: Project - "The under funded dream" / phase III

Oh I know. This is like our 5th LSx motor powered vehicle. We had a 305hp LS1 in a '99 T/A, a 325hp LQ4 in our '01 Sierra C3 (1st Denali truck), a 285hp LM7 in our '04 Yukon and a 395hp LS2 in the '06 TBSS. Now 500+hp from a '08 LY6 going in my '68 GMC...the oldest of all of them.

Re: Project - "The under funded dream" / phase III

old frame is gone and I'm just about through with all the disassembly and cleaning. Flipped the frame and noticed my POR-15 paint job had a few runs...I'm just glad its all on top where nobody would see it.

soon I'll be ready to do nothing but assemble.....and I'll close out this thread and start the "build" thread.

Re: Project - "The under funded dream" / phase III

Thanks!

I finally got the crossmembers and control arms cleaned up. I'm going to hit them with a wire brush then prep, then POR15. Then I'm ready tp start putting things on the frame instead of pulling them off.

Oh....my new LSX/LS3 dual plane intake. Possibly the 1st in TX?

Re: Project - "The under funded dream" / phase III

Last update for this thread. Disassembly is done...with possible exception to the rear axle...which may get some changes. All the crossmembers, control arms, trailing arms, etc. have been cleaned up, stitch welded up (the trailing arms), and prepped for painting with POR15.

Next post will have a link to the next build phase...and one where I'm actually assembling the truck back together. It will also be named as such so people get an idea whats behind the subject line....like "68GMC/LSx Build - the next phase" or something.
