Indian what length wheelbase did you wind up with after moving it forward ?

I've seen lots of these subframe grafts. One question...how do you do the brakes? Do you have to use the firewall mounted brake units? Or will everything still work under the floor?

I have a 2nd gen Camaro clip with an C4 Vette rear, still using the stock master. I'm about to go to a dual though.

I am going with a firewall mounted hydro boost mostly because my engine is pretty wide.
I am using a 400 Pontiac and a 4speed. I would like to use the same set up under the floor but It wont all fit with the exhaust and clutch linkage.

Re: 1949 Chevy Truck Subframe Install - Any Pictures

Can anyone tell me if a 76-78 nova frame is wider than the 74? I bought a sub frame and think the guy thought it was a 76. Being the novice, I didn't think there would be a diff but got it all the way home and it measures out to be the same width as the Camaro which I didn't want. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Also, has anyone here used a later Nova sub? Thanks

Re: 1949 Chevy Truck Subframe Install - Any Pictures

Bonechip,if the sub is a front steer it's the same as a camaro. A 74 nova is rear steer,68-74 nova,67-69 camaro-firebird are all the same.

So is it common to extend the wheel base 3 inches to make it look better? Need to know before I weld it all up!

I am no expert but I think its a preference on how you want the wheels centered in the wheel wells. But what I did was tacked mine good enough to hold weight and set it down and put the sheet metal on a couple times to make sure I liked the way it looked before I did my final welding and measuring

So what did you end up with for a final length? 119, or 116?

Man the center of the wheels is fine at 116. Plus you should always just tack it end (its very easy to remove a tack weld) and hang a some sheetmetal and have a look before any final welding. Once you are satisfied weld it in.

This is 116 wheelbase with the rear end also centered in the fenders (some of these trucks are off in the rear also).

Off topic but what size wheels and tires are those? I really like the way that size set up looks in the wheel opening. I've been trying to decide if 15 or 16 inch rims are the way to go and then what size tires.

Thanks
Greg

Its not my truck I just installed the clip for a buddy of mine. I had to give him a call and he told me the front is 14x7 with a 235/60/14 tire the rear is a 15x8 with a 255/60/15 tire.

I hope this helps, because I got in a argument with him on the phone because I did not believe the fronts were 14's and he cuss me out and went to go check.lol Once he verified it, he cuss me out some more for not believing he knew what was on his truck. I told him that I will be by to verify it myself this weekend. You don't want to know what he said to that.lol

Well, we got it all measured and measured.. I think it was 2 evenings worth, but we got it tacked in. Had to haul the cab and fenders from storage to check to make sure it looked right. It did so back apart it all came. Now just welding the sub on for good and boxing it. Them a good cleaning and some paint! I have a few pics, but im sure you guys are tired of all the build pics so I wont bore ya. Thanks for all the info guys!

Don't forget to measure the angles for castor on the upper "A" arms!
Check out Rob's post on safety from No Limit, some good points to follow
