^^^That is what we have always used at the shop and no one has ever came back and said that the sound levels were to high or it was to hot inside the vehicle.

I used Lizard Skin all over interior of cab, then Second Skin Damplifier Pro over the Lizard Skin on floor, I'm very pleased with the performance, both as a heat blocker & sound deadener.

Curious cause i'm not a body man, if i decide to use the stuff and down the road a rust problem pops up because it was hidden inside a rocker or cab support, how hard it it to remove the stuff you use? can it be media blasted off? Thanks,

Re: sound deadener

I'm curious as to what some of you are doing with the exposed areas of the sound deadener? Like up front on the firewall where the carpet ends. Is the stuff paintable or do you make sure you have something to cover it all up?

Re: sound deadener

I have experience with just about every deadener out there. My advice is stay away from anything tar based. The only two that in my opinion are even worth buying is FatMat's MegaMat or Second Skin Damplifier. They're both Butyl and work 10x better than anything else out there. The tar based stuff easily peels off and in some cases the smell of the tar lingers in the car forever. If you're going to deaden, do it right. FatMat MegaMat is the cheaper of the two (100 sq. ft. for $240) and works very well. I have about 130 sq. ft. in my cab along with a layer of Second Skin's Luxury Liner Pro. It's about as quiet as a new luxury car.

Butyl based is the only way to go.

Edit- as for the spray stuff I have never used any but really want to. Everyone I know that has used it says it's excellent stuff.

Good point - except in a lot of areas of the country, we either don't get much rain (like here), the truck is garaged, or it isn't driven in the rain. If it is, then it's probably a daily driver, and you're a little less picky about how it looks in the long run.

What's the best for Heat AND Sound insulation?

When the air temp is 115 out here the asphalt is usually 150...

Hoping to keep the truck semi-coool.

Nova70 10-27-2010 04:54 AM

Re: sound deadener

That would require a two step process. The sound deadener does just what it says, reduces sound. For some insulation you would want to go with some second heat wave or a similar product.

Heat Wave Pro

Re: sound deadener

I would still like to know if any of the products listed are easy to remove if you end up having a hidden rust issue rear its ugly head? by sander or maybe heat gun?

Nova70 10-29-2010 01:24 AM

Re: sound deadener

You can remove it but it will not be re-usable. You can peel it off while applying heat.

B-Quiet is tar based and I would not recommend it.

I did my whole interior and inside my doors and door panels with butyl window sealer from Home Depot! 50 ft roll for $17. Used two rolls. It's half the thickness of Dynamat but like 1/10th the cost. I figured I would just double it up if I needed to. but after putting just one layer on I'm happy.

Anybody know what the square footage is to do the inside of the cab (floor/back cab, etc)

somewhere between 60-70 ft/sq. ... that will cover the firewall up to the windshield, cab floor and back wall up to rear window.

I bought 100 ft/sq of FatMat (two 50 ft/sq rolls) and have covered the areas described above and have little less than one full roll left to do the doors.

hope this helps.

DO you know the product name? Any smell or adverse things that you make up for withthe use of automotive-intended products?

If something like that would work I'd have no problem using two layers under foot or on the inside of the firewall...as long as it doesn't feel "squishy" under foot, smell, move after installtion, etc.

Did all you guys sandblast, wire wheel, or at least sand (and maybe paint?) before putting these products on?

I too have been looking for a cost effective sound deadener. But using non automotive products can present problems especially in an enclosed interior application. I went to Protecto Wrap's website for more data on the Protecto Wrap BT25XL Window & Door Sealing Tape.

Protecto Wrap BT25XL Window & Door Sealing Tape http://www.protectowrap.com/pdf/msds/bt25xl-msds.pdf
It is an asphalt based product.

APPEARANCE AND ODOR: Opaque black, tacky solid with no odor.
MELTING POINT: 220°F (104°C) (Softening Point)

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
This product is a black, opaque, tacky solid with no odor. Product is not flammable but will burn under
fire conditions. May cause mild eye and skin irritation. Contact with heated product may cause thermal
burns. Inhalation of vapors from heated product may cause irritation of the nose, throat and respiratory
system. This product contains crystalline silica in the form of quartz. Prolonged overexposure to
respirable crystalline silica may cause lung disease (silicosis) and increase the risk of lung cancer.

Re: sound deadener

Protecto window and door wrap is a butyl rubber like the other sound deadeners. They also make a .60 mil thick, aluminum backed product called Audio Wrap. Also butyl for $156 for a 15 inch by 50ft roll. They claim better test results than the leading competitors. www.audiowrap.com
