Sorry man, I've been busy all day. I did take some pics though. Not sure how clear they will be, if you want more from another angle let me know.

Thanks! The po tried to start it and a couple valves stuck. Yesterday we pulled the head and cleaned it up then reassembled it. I have never seen old gas do something this bad. The valves were extremely stuck. Some of the chambers had varnish almost a 1/4 in. thick. Hope to get it fired up today!

That thing is AWESOME!!!!!! If I remember, you just use the OD like you're shifting into 4th. That thing would be SICK with that power train left in it!!!

Here's a couple pics of it. I wish I had gotten some close up pics of the gunk, but oh well. If you look closely you can see the valves with no rocker on them are stuck down. Also note the gunk build up on top of the pistons.

Yes sir, that's my plan leave as is. It's exactly what I wanted, the overdrive is just a super cool added bonus!

Good looking Burb and I know how you feel about wanting one for long time. How was the trip with the UHaul trailer. I'm dealing on a Burb that is 1500 miles away and was thinking of doing the same thing. What rear gears are in your Z71 and how far did you transport and how did it handle the load?

The uhaul trailer was awesome! I got a newer one, $65 bucks with insurance. Drove about 200 mi. round trip. It pulled amazingly well. Just make sure you get the one that is wide enough. It think it was about 85" wide and the wheel base on the burb is 127". I'm not sure on my gears right off but i know they're kinda high. At 60 mph in third gear runs about 2500 rpm's I think. I had to hit about 65 before it would go into overdrive with the haul button pushed.

So I got everything back together, and figured I would check the gas tank before I put new gas in it. Lucky I did! Here's what I found. So now I'm looking for a new tank and sending unit...:smoke:

Good thinking on dropping that tank! While you are at it, I'd replace the pump and filters.

I'd just order up a new tank and sending unit, along with a new sending unit wire. (The original will undoubtably be dry rotted, and considering the location it would be prudent).

Just looking at those pictures, I can smell the varnished gasoline!

I had a 68 c10 307 with a three on the tree and overdrive. I never did get it to work right. when i sold it the new owner pointed out that there was a fuse holder near the brake booster that was missing a fuse. it had somthing to do with the over drive.

So the best deal I've found for a gas tank is The Truck Shop. $192 + shipping for the tank, sending unit, and straps. Anybody have a better idea? Thanks for any input...
