got the inside repainted flat black, seat bolted in, harness bolted in, and few stickers put on lol. i need to take the center aluminum panel back off so i can get my power switch, fuel switch, starter button, and whatever else i may need put on it. its comin along pretty good right now. put new head gaskets and a new double roller timing set in the motor, waiting on an intake to show up then its time to paint the motor and get it and the th400 put in so i can make a new trans cross member then it will be time to turn it around, take the bed off and start building the back half of this thing :metal:

got the motor and trans put into the truck today/tonight. need to get a piece of steel cut at work to make a cross member for the trans but thats not to hard to do. decided to put the front clip on with a couple bolts holding it to keep the motor covered up. just need to put a starter on the motor and drop the dist. back in and i might be able to get the motor to fire off this coming weekend. also got my fire extinguisher and battery disconnect put in.

Is that a short or long nose water pump. I have both but I thought it might save me a step to know which to use. I have the same fan everything looks the same as yours.

Looks like a blast!

put the front clip back on for the final time today, rolled it out of the carport into the sun, looked so good that i just had to take a couple pics lol. after that, turned it around and pulled the rear end out so i can get the 3/4 ton rear end ready to go in. here are some pics :metal:

Nice!

So I'm guessing you'll have to do some work to get the puller tires on the back???

Re: 1971 chev tractor puller

i've got some 15'' 3/4ton wheels that im gonna be getting the pulling tires mounted on. i already test fitted them on the rear end and they fit perfect. they should fit in the wheel wells, i stood one of the puller tires up along side of the truck before i welded the rear end mounts in place and it looked like there will be plenty of clearance. if not, i'll have to trim the wheel wells out a little.

Re: 1971 chev tractor puller

finished welding the rear end in place today. utilized the trailing arms since it was a coil truck, one piece of 2''x3''x1/4'' welded straight up and down between the frame and the rear end and another piece of 2''x3''x1/4'' welded in between the rear end and the frame at an angle toward the back to kind of triangulate it all and create more than enough support and bracing. i have the main piece of the hitch built just gotta get some plates cut to make the mounts and get another piece of steel cut to make a mount for the adjustable link of the hitch. i'll take some pics tomorrow of the progress. the first pull is on may 4th so im busting my butt the get it ready lol

Golly, what if you want to pull the 5th wheel trailer???

Just kidding. Looks stout. You must want to be able to adjust the height of the hitching point, right? Is that for different sleds or for varying track conditions?

car66 04-07-2013 10:58 AM

Re: 1971 chev tractor puller

Lol, a little of both. At our local pulls, its all about antique tractors and 4x4 diesel trucks. I'm pretty much the only guy building a wheelstander. The idea is to set the hitch for a "competative" pull then make a second pull with the hitch set as high as it goes so I can carry the front end down the track.
