Re: Gary's 64 build (Australia)

Im up to the front tubs an have run into a problem with the wheels hitting the outer guards i have foose 20x8.5 5.25 backspace
i dont wan a have to get new rims so does anybody have any ideas or how they have done the front tubs with 20's +

Re: Gary's 64 build (Australia)

I have seen threads where members have modified the front tubs, but this creates the need to adjust how the hood springs attach. so you would have to engineer a new location for the springs.
I really like the double bed floor design. That give me an idea of where to fit a larger custom fuel tank on the bottom floor with a gas tank lid in the wood bed.

Re: Gary's 64 build (Australia)

Do a search on "Maggie's Custom", on page 9 you will maybe get ideas from how he modified the front tubs.

Re: Gary's 64 build (Australia)

Yeah I have a 100l tank with the fuel cap lid in wooded

With the front tubs I have allready fitted porterbuilt hood hinges so that's no problem, it's the wheel hitting the outer gaurd.

I could get a different offset rim but that's not a cheap option

.
Cheers ill check out the thread

VERY nice work!!!

I really like what you've done so far. You're going to have the coolest 60-66 in the country. A few years ago, we sent a bunch of old custom Chevy trucks over to Australia. We're good friends with Justin and Turk Klos, who are well-known custom semi truck builders in Lara Lake, and they wanted a bunch of trucks and bikes to re-sell. We sent some pretty cool stuff over there. Probably 10 trucks and cars and about a dozen Harleys.

Re: Gary's 64 build (Australia)

Thanks Guys yeah its slowly getting there!
Was thinking of same colour and white roof but now may have to do a bare metal respray which I'm not looking forward to how much that will cost in Oz but if so i might do a pearl orange or candy red with silver top not sure yet.

chevyrestoguy: yeah i would love to import a few but the cost of flying over to check them out it costly, i was in the US for months looking a car shows and swap meets.

Gary, How's the LS conversion going? Do you still have the stock lower rear shock absorber mounts off your truck? I went to put new shocks in my '64 and found one is damaged and bent. Drop me a PM if you still have them. Cheers.

Re: Gary's 64 build (Australia)

Hey guys went back to Sydney to work on the truck for a few weeks.
Finally got it back from the fabricator and started doing stuff again.
Made the custom stainless exhaust took bloody ages.
Put a cam in the ls1 .

Having trouble finding a booster than will sit flush on the firewall and be able to have a good pedal.

Also pretty sure I know who I'm going to get the panel and paint done by.
They are called Fat 57 they have done 2 street machine of the year cars

And they are interested in my project.
Nothing comes cheap in oz with a 20g min cost :$

Aus64c10: pretty sure I have the brackets I'll get my old man to have a look

Re: Gary's 64 build (Australia)

Thanks for taking the time to look for the mount.

My master cylinder crapped out last week and i wanted to replace the booster too. Have you looked at Captain Fab's booster bracket? It seems to be the way to go. I've got a master cylinder on order but might try to get my booster rebuilt locally and stick with the factory bracket until i get my truck on the road.

Re: Gary's 64 build (Australia)

Finally at a stage where its ready to go to spray painters going with Fat 57 customs in Sydney, these are my options I'm 80% on the 1st one similar colour to how it is but with white roof, i needs a full respray and inside also so colour change won't matter

What you guys think

i want to keep it old school and not a outrages colour
