So... Does pro-towing have to be a pick-up truck?

No, not trucks only....Large SUVs would totally fit.

I can't really see a short wheel base truck (like a blazer, scout, or jeep) being used for regularly towing.

Heck, it would be cool to see a old chevelle wagon with a cummins in it set up for towing!

You just reminded me of how many elco's and nomads I have seen towing something cool to or from a race or event!

I also saw a Diesel Touareg towing a 26' race trailer up to Pikes Peak!!!

I think your site might be an excellent idea for the simple fact that you can spread towing safety tips and how-to set up to properly tow.

I have seen some scary set ups too. Like a Jeep Liberty with a hitch rack/trailer hitch extender and a 12' toy hauler behind it!

You should definitely have a safety section. how-to secure loads, safety checks, state laws, GVWR info, and such.

I'm not going to worry about my truck brakes much. When they get the actual jake brakes done for the early 5.9's, I'm getting that!

Generally equipped with:
  • Diesel engines or a EFI big block
  • Larger than standard fuel tanks
  • Tool boxes or beds setup for towing and plenty of storage for tools and gear.
  • Heavy duty hitches
  • Dual rear wheels (some exceptions)
  • Overload springs, air assist or air ride
  • Creature comforts, plush seats, cruise control, sound insulation ect.
  • 10,000 GVWR or greater.
  • CB/HAM radios
  • Navigation systems
  • Truck/Trailer painted to match.
That is the list I have, you all have any more suggestions?

I've got eight of the eleven and I wasn't even building a tow rig!!

Trust me, once a pro, always a pro....... The only difference is you get to drive it occasionally.

I revived this idea and set up a new message board that is easy to work with:
