Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
Thanks I'm hoping to get the frame striped down tonight and then I can start working on getting it painted and on the re assemble with all new parts.
Still havnt decided fully on lift kit yet. 4 or 6 in and what brand. I'm thinking a 4in tuff country with 33s but the idea of 6in lift and 35s keeps calling my name. Any ideas? |

Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
I was planning on Tearing the frame all the way down and replacing all rivets with bolts but now im not sure. All the rivets are still very tight nothing wiggles yet. What did you guys do tear it the whole way down and replace with bolts or leave it blast and coat it now.

Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
These Rivets are tough. Save the $40.00 in grade 8 bolts...GREAT PROGRESS

Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
Sounds good to be i have the frame loaded on the trailer and ready to be coated. Along with a pile of other parts.!! I have an update this weekend when i start rebuilding the axles.!
|
Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
Well why the frame is at the powder coaters i figure i should start getting these axles cleaned up and rebuilt. I ordered all new axle seals, bearings, brakes, hardware, and a diff cover with a drain plug in it. Here are some progress pics

Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
That old finned diff cover is a Hickey Enterprises unit. Someone here will probably want that. Nice looking build.

Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
Subscribed - looks great so far!
p.s. - I'll buy that rear diff cover :) |
Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
I'm pretty sure the rear diff cover is already sold. If only it had a drain plug on it i would have still used it.

Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
Just noticed your post about bolts. I recommend having the bolts, hood hinges, door strikers, and hood latches zinc phosphate coated (Parkerized). It's not pricey, so much better than painting, and is what GM did. I stumbled onto this when my K20 was about 2/3 rebuilt. Had I learned sooner I'd have done all the engine brackets also. Another suggestion, paint the metal dash where the defrost vents are in the correct flat finish. Some folks overlooks this and end up with quite a glare on the windshield.
Also, be careful of Wes - I ordered a pile of parts last week and they're still not here :) |
Re: 72 K5 Blazer Build
what are you using for paint / undercoat on your rear? looking good!
