Re: Problems aligning power steering pump with crank

This looks exactly like my engine (in form, not beauty!). The power steering, crank, and water pump setup looks exactly like mine. I also have the same power steering bracket that you have. What is the difference between this bracket and the original? I suppose the original bracket was cast iron and weighed a ton. I have been trying to do this power steering original, but I may have my limits.

Nice looking engine. Was this the stock color for a GMC (327?)

Thanks

Re: Problems aligning power steering pump with crank

I cant tell exactly what you have but from the factory on a 1966 Chevy it used 2 stamped steel brackets, a cradle and an adjuster. My setup is a cast iron cradle and some steel brackets, l I think this setup actually started in 1969 ? I needed it to clear the large 400 balancer. Your crank pulleys are all different as you've already shown, they are offset more out than mine.

GMCs had either a V6 ( mine did originally ) or a straight six. V6 GMCs were reddish orange so I painted my 400 SB similar in just Chevy Orange. Your 327 in a 1966 Chevy truck was green ( referred to as Alpine Green ) and 283s grey.

unless they were Canadian built GMC, then they used the same engine setup as the Chevrolet trucks

60-66,
Do you know the part number for that power steering bracket you have? Also, the number for the crank pulley and power steering pump pulley?

The part number depends on what setup you are using , the stock setup or the one I posted of the engine sitting on the stand which was a combination of parts to make the large harmonic balancer of a 400 small block work in a 1966 GMC . The stock setup , cradle and adjuster bracket will not fit next to that balancer. That PS pump and brackets was from the 1968-1972 trucks.
