Made some good progress today. Got the cab off the frame. Willie stripped it down to the bare rails so it's ready for porterbuilt stuff. All suspension should be here tomorrow. Super stoked. Also got the cab down to the shop and started shaving the firewall. Cut an access hole for the vintage air lines to run through the side of the firewall and through the fender

Thank you. We got all the porterbuilt stuff laid out . Willie will start putting it on soon. Hats off to Nate and Dave at porterbuilt! They put out quality stuff and it is worth every penny. Sloshtubz are on their way as well!
Let me know what you think. More pictures soon

Any type of progress is good in my book. This should be fun to follow along for the build at such an early stage, I always seem to be late to the party. :metal:

You may end up wishing you kept the two piece driveshaft. I noticed you got the non-carrier bearing trailing arm crossmember from Porterbuilt.

Looks like it was a nice truck to start with. Waiting to see how you finish it up!

It is a two-piece driveshaft. This is the new cross-member from PB so the location of the carrier bearing is in a slightly different location.

Re: '72 Drop member... "Betty"

The new location did not work for mine. I used an old long bed 2piece shaft and I still have to weld a mount between the ladder bar perches in order to keep the rear shaft piece the same length. If a new drive shaft is being made then it is supposed to align angles better from what Dave and Nate said. Just what I found when going through the heartache of getting my driveshaft fit up.

Good to know mike. I was hoping to use the old drive shaft, but maybe I can't. Let the budget go!haha

Haha. Just found this picture on my phone. Look closely. I didn't realize I couldn't be in the left lane doing 75 mhp in California. In Colorado we run 80. Lmao. Oops

It's a love hate relationship. I so anxious to see it finished. Trying not to go to deep because I want a nice driver. Not an over the top show car. Stuff adds up so quick.

Little progress today. Got hood hinges installed and mocked up the vintage air. Welded some studs to the inside of the firewall so I don't have to bolt through the firewall. Make sense? Also started to get the rack and pinion installed. Long Day, but it doesn't look like it.

Willie took the lifted edge of the frame and made it flat. Makes it look so clean.

Did you just heat it and hammer it out?

olrosa 02-19-2014 01:33 PM

Re: '72 Drop member... "Betty"

No,cut it out with plasma cutter, made a filler piece and welded it in.
