A relatively early build, apparently. VINs start at 100001 and yours is in the 113,000 range. My truck was built a year later (almost to the day) in Flint Michigan. Built on Sept 29, 1986 (1987 model) and they had already built more than 317,000 units in Flint. K |

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
A Camper Special package would be shown on the SPID, because it had heavier-duty rear springs and tie downs.
Every 81-87 I've seen has had the camper sticker in the glovebox, regardless of whether it has the camper package or not. |

Keith:
Was it 1983 that the SPID font was changed? And what year was the SPID made smaller, showing only the codes and not the descriptions? |
Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
So, all of this SPID talk has me wondering how to get a new SPID label. Mine is pretty beat up, and I'd like a new one made. I know that there's a member here that makes new 67-72 SPID labels at www.outintheshop.com.
Does anyone know if he makes them for 73-87 trucks? I'm going to shoot him a message, but I figured I'd ask here as well. |
Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
What year is your truck? As long as your SPID is the same style/font as the 67-72 ones, Jeff should be able to make it. Off the top of my head, a believe that style was used through 1982. He can only make that style. I have been talking to him about it recently.

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
I have an 84 C10. It looks like I probably missed the cut off. I sent him a message, so I will see what he has to say. Between him talking to you and me, we should be able to find something out.

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
Mine's an '84 as well. But I actually prefer the older style SPID, so I'm going to have him do an older one, changing a few options to reflect the changes I'm making to the truck.
He warned me that I will be a very expensive obvious fake, but I don't care because I don't plan to sell the truck for big $$$ any time soon. |

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
Here's a couple more to add ...
My 77 GMC Sierra: http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps6e3cfdf1.jpg And Dad's 77 GMC Sierra Classic: http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps5e744c89.jpg A few things I noticed when comparing the two: (1) Both trucks were equipped with factory dual exhaust but it's only listed on the SPID in mine. That's because (according to the 77 truck info kit from the GM Heritage Center) it was automatically included with the LF4 400 engine in Dad's truck. (2) Both trucks were also equipped with the Z53 gauge cluster but again, it's only listed on the SPID in mine. Turns out that's included with the YE9 Sierra Classic Equipment. And I also found it interesting that it was still being listed as "GAUGES - AMMETER, OIL" even though these trucks changed over to voltmeters in 76. (3) My 77 was built in Oshawa and Dad's was built in Flint. As a result, you can see some variations in the way they were typed up. Like how the "MODEL TK10903" is listed. And how the option numbers on mine are lined up near the right side of the column, while on Dad's they're aligned to the left of the column (and have a 1 prefix). (4) Finally, they are both GMC's but neither one of them has the Z88 "GMC Conversion" code as described in this thread --> http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=621909&page=2 I guess some assembly plants just didn't bother listing that on the SPID. |
Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
Good eye, Ray.
Relative to the GMC option, it is a little redundant since the "T" at the beginning of the model number (ie "TK10903") also denotes GMC. However - in my mind - it should also have had Z88 on the SPID. Seems like a factory mistake to me; I would have taken them to task on that one. K |
Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
By the squarebody era, was there really any advantage (besides looks) to spending an extra $50 to buy a GMC instead of a Chevy?
Was there really any difference between them from 1973 on? I'm not hating on GMC's, but I'm just curious. |

The only advantage would be if your local dealer was a Buick/Pontiac dealer and sold GMC trucks rather than Chevys. K |

I was at the hardware store today and there was a young man working who has an '85...with the sliding rear window. We visited a bit and I ask him if I could see his SPID. To no ones' surprise, I suppose, it says: A28 SLIDING REAR WINDOW So - there ya go. K |

I think it's the one that got speared by a fork lift truck.... Incidentally - I calculate I saw about 900,000 trucks go by my foreman's desk during that time period. I wouldn't know how to calculate how many since then. K |

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
You dont see the factory bed rails very often on these trucks. Most I guess would have been added later. YH6 I believe is a discount for a certain group of options.

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
Cool thread guys, I was wanting to find a few good 73+ examples and I hit the jackpot here! Should be able to duplicate this with not to much trouble, going to take a bit of time though. Got about all the work (It's just a hobby!) I can handle with the 66-72 labels but there have been many people looking for these.

Id like to see a spid that has the aluminum wheel and or sport bumper option.
