I thought I had some NOS straps around here, but didn't lay my hands on them in my short search today.

I think that strap may still be available from GM. I will look in my Chevelle assembly manual and see if I can come up with a number.

BTW, it always bothered me that there is so much extra strap that I had to creatively use up.

Jeff completely agree with you and thanks for the good words.

The plastic ties seem resilient to me and the nubs that keep them locked in place are shallow. I don’t expect you will damage it upon removal if you are cautious. Also, I can only find 5” and 7” aftermarket ties. I buddied up two ties and placed them around the hoses for now.

Larry thanks. If that Chevelle tie works I’d love to have a lead for a source or even a part number to chase.

Arrived. Style differs from oem. These are just typical zip ties. :(

AC/Delco zip ties!
I don't want to ask how much those were!
Please call when you get a chance Pete.

How is that for bait and switch?

I guess I better start digging through my archives.

Received some Gates fuel hose today (USA made) because I’m a hoarder. I can confirm a good fit. No local parts shop could obtain this Gates hose - Jegs had it but I wonder for how much longer...pricey.

Lol! You are correct. However, this is in my stash of leftover 71-72 aux pickup fuel tank parts. Alas, no build going for me.

Deadhead- Does the Gates 24702 fuel hose you picked up have a slight molded bend or is it straight through?

I'm trying to find the hose with the bend. I see photos of both straight and with the bend fir the same part. Amazon has a photo with bend but several complaints the hose received had no bend.

DeadheadNM 11-01-2020 09:46 PM

Re: Blazer and Jimmy Fuel Neck Styles

It’s straight hose, no bend. A 3’ section.

Re: Blazer and Jimmy Fuel Neck Styles

FWIW I’m u aware the any OEM fuel neck hoses were molded w a bend. Would like to know if so.

Re: Blazer and Jimmy Fuel Neck Styles

My initial search showed the 24702 with a bend so I thought that was the right hose. A previous owner (15+ years ago) installed a newer style poly tank but the hose used to connect the fuel neck to the tank was straight but is bent and has a slight kink in it. The tank isn't period correct but it hasn't caused me any problems, other than the hose kink. Maybe the straight 24702 might be a better option than the kinked hose I have now.

Out of the 3 I have had all had straight hose that you bent a little?

If you need a 1 3/8 90 degree fuel hose this place has a nice fuel related parts assortment.

Thanks for sharing the bent hose source info, Thealien.

Short of replacing the tank with a fuel neck, I would need an S shaped or flexible fuel hose in 1.375 diameter.

The original posts contain great info with fantastic photos that was shared. Tha KS for sharing.

Thanks Deadhead, I appreciate it.

I dont have the evap canister so I am looking at options for simplifying all of the pipes, hoses and connections.
The evap system seems a little excessive for such a primitive vehicle.

When I was young we used to rip all that stuff out. Now I realize that GM wasn’t that stupid. It’s nice having a car in the garage and not smell like gas!

Factory assembly manual is a good start plus photos from prior builds and part outs. I think there is some variation in tank plumbing for 72 compared with other years. Here’s an example diagram from said manual - I’ll post a pic from my 72 build.

It’s hard to follow in the diagram. Is the center hose the one that goes to the front?

Thought I’d add examples of the gas caps correct for the various K5 years. Feel free to double check. Photos are borrowed from past threads.

69-70 used 3914958 primed if not CST (top) and 3927086 stainless if CST (lower)

3927086 is also correct for 71-72 Ser 20-30 trucks w body side molding or Cheyenne model. 3914958 also correct for Ser 20-30 71-72 trucks without side molding/non Cheyenne.

The 1979 era parts manual doesn’t call out a cap for a 1971 Blazer specifically. I’ll triple check.

Cap 3975177 is listed for Ser 10.

For 1972, 6263474 is listed for all (and Ser 10, Ser 20 Suburbans, and 72 auxiliary fuel tanks for fleet sides).
