To nice there are plenty of candidates to shorten up. Like Tim said a basic no option longed is where I would start .

To clean to cut. Find someone with a short bed and make a trade. That way you get what you want with no work on your part.

But. But. But.... you’d loose the tool and stowage box... that’s one of my more favorite things about my truck. You just don’t see them very often especially in good shape.

I’ve always been into stock, original trucks that match spid
Back when I got this one
Someone had removed the gas tank from cab And put a small one under the bed
They also c-notched the frame
I could never figure why it was c-notched, but not lowered
Otherwise the truck is as original as it gets
Fast forward
Seems like each time I go to truck shows you see more and more modified
It’s much more acceptable, now (even by me)
And I’ve become friends with some of the guys who are into it
As well as, do the work

A few years ago , I would never even contemplate
This question

Now I go back and forth on it

I get it - I have thought about it too.
I think certain trucks are better candidates for lowering/chopping. Yours, in my opinion, has the classic-stock look. You should post some more pics.

Our group is probably 50/50 on long or short preferences. For those who still use their truck as a truck the long is their choice. And those who just own and drive theirs don't care about that extra couple of feet. I'd think a black, big block, Cheyenne Super short bed, posi truck would be more sought after. AmIright?

Ive posted this before, but in 1980 in Auto-body at trade school, the teacher brought in a 1972 Super/350 and told our 3 man team to make it a short bed. Back then there was no internet, just a couple of trucks in the lot to measure. It was a beautiful black long bed, but he had it sold if it was a shortie. So, long story short, we cut it, cleaned up our acetylene welds, (no mig welder) and repainted the bed. It made a realy nice truck. Now, that being said, that was 40 years ago and that truck was 8 years old and you couldn't go to town without meeting a half dozen or so on the road. Nowadays, around here, you may go a month and not meet one. Attrition has made all of them rare, and as of the last 3 or 4 years, lwb prices have climbed almost at the same rate as swbs.
If it were me, and I never was going to sell it, I would cut it without hesitation if I wanted a swb.
If it were a nonsentimental truck and I saw flipping it in the future, I might rethink. It is a rare bird.

About 80-90% don’t like cut down trucks around here
For me, it’s not really desirability Or money
I just like playing with trucks
But, they are only longbeds once :chevy:
Although , I will say
I saw an all original black super SB BB for sale recently for $30k
It sat on cl for a couple weeks, at least
The one I posted below mine at the top of thread
Cut with 350 crate
Is for sale for $$25k

That is where the truck hobby is (Right now)

I imagine the big fear of cut down frames is not knowing who did it and how well they did it and whether it's been misrepresented or not. That's understandable.
I've done enough body n paint and modifying through the years I wouldn't object to one if I could inspect it.
IMO, from just that 1 pic, that 2nd truck is overpriced @ $25g.
If I was to cut one down it would not be with flipping in mind, it would be for me to keep and enjoy. I don't view these trucks as investments. ;)

I don't really care for long beds much, but as others have already mentioned I would find a more low optioned long bed to cut and leave that one original.

I’m the one completely outside of the box, I simply can’t understand why anyone would cut down a long bed (??). In my circles a rare vehicle would be something less than 1000 produced, therefore making that a pretty difficult and sometimes expensive find. Chevy made approximately 250,000 short fleets over a six year span. Not a rare truck. A loaded 71-72 super (?) OK, not an every day thing but they are out there. Plus, once the truck is cut, lowered and heavily modified it’s a stamp of the times, better hope all those changes will stand the test of time if the truck is to maintain value or any desirability down the road. Not a small amount of work or money to do the job right. Oh, and that two-tone Original paint cab/new bed new paint thing, I know not everybody follows that path but that always looks pretty cheesy to me. I wanted a short bed too, so I just went and bought one, i’m kind a lazy that way :).

but to answer your question : And this is just my opinion from somebody who’s been addicted to the hobby close to 40 years now: 71-72 GM trucks Will stay at the top of the hobby well past my lifetime. Solid unmolested originals will always be at the top of the heap. You already have it, no work required! So yeah, that’s my vote .......

You already have a Cheyenne Super shortbed, don't you? Hey, I know the guys you're talking about hanging with, like them, and approve of what they do (and that's important, you know :rolleyes:) <more sarcasm I even respect Rene <more. I think they'd still accept you if you didn't cut it down. But, and that's a BIG BUT > )(, you say the frame has been altered making it a never again unmolested factory Cheyenne Super that I thought it was and based my opinion on in regards to cut or not to cut just last evening that even a frame swap could not properly in terms of absolute factory original ever correctly remedy? Then in that case slam it! :lol:

Really, I see it in a different way now. I'm beginning to understand why you even considered this in the first place... heh heh. I actually do understand. That c-notch is a game changer. It's no harm no fowl if keeping it a longbed is what you wanted. At least not until you went to sell it... as original. But the reality is just that. It will never be original again. Minor in terms of looking at the truck in any way except laying under it. But major in terms of staying original. She's no virgin now. Have your way with her

I would not shorten that particular truck. As was said on here, a lower optioned or more rough condition truck is a better candidate.

That's all I have to say about that.
