Nice buy on the blue beast. Great to see the forum helping each other out.

David, my boy is putting an LS in his 68 and having problems with the ac compressor clearing. The motor already had conversion mounts on it when we got it that have two possible positions. I would love to be able to leave the compressor down low. Can you post a link of the mounts that make this possible?

Big Blue will definitely get an LS conversion. It will be a first for me, so I am open to suggestions.

Here you go, Hooker Blackheart:
https://www.holley.com/brands/hooker...ap_components/

Not sure if a '68 has the wide or narrow frame rails...but Hooker makes the mounts for either. My experience was that no clearance issues with compressor. But, since the Blachheart mounts the engine low, the PS pump required a bit of trimming on my narrow frame rails.

AWESOME! I tried to get back up there for more pictures on Thursday and yesterday both but my schedule didn’t permit it. Glad you found a good reliable way to get it coming your way! I hope you like it in person as much as I did when I was looking it over!

Looks like this deal ended up being a match made in heaven!

Check the LS section, several option on motor mounts. I used $30 adapter plate, trimmed off forward hole. OEM motor mounts and stands in back hole. Compressor is not in this photo, it's tight and will need some custom hoses........Thundarr, nice save

Re: Someone save this truck

Got two used tires so I could get him up on his feet and rolled off the trailer. Steering was tight and the brakes actually work well.

Overall assessment is as advertised. The cab corners are clean. No rust and no repairs there. There was some bondo up front from some sort of previous impact but the frame rails are straight. The roof drip rail is original and incredible. Wood on the Bed is original and rotted but the metal channels are great. The seat is strangely in great shape, so it must be a recover.
Thanks again, 56taskforce. This is as good a starting point as I could hope for.

Damnit that grill was going to look soo good on my K20 too! Glad you are happy with it, I knew that one was a hell of a truck all things considered. I can’t wait to see what you make it into! It’s all proof that even though they are getting harder to find, clean minimal rust trucks are still around.

Much like Geraldo's opening of Al Capone's vault, mine was a dud too.

The lock was actually open, but the handle is busted. I just had to take a flat-head screw driver and push down the latch pin to open.

I'll be thankful if this continues to be the "Truck of No Surprises".

I keep thinking.....DAMN!....even with the repaint, that thing is just in WAYYy nice condition for that kind of money.

Just got back to town and starting to work on Big Blue.
I'm going to pull out the rotten wood bed and get him over to a Body Shop. Might as well get some paint on the frame too when he's mostly apart.

I've got a few friends keeping eyes out on drivetrain donors while I get the body done, but I'm open to any good suggestions for reasonably priced motor and tranny in the DFW area.

We were at the family lakehouse in NY for a few weeks. You gotta get out of Dallas for at least part of the summer each year. The nights aren't cool here like you get up that way in NM.

About Blue, I found a couple of interesting things.

What is this bracket between the right side fender and the battery box? Did the 72's have a coolant overflow tank? I had to add an aftermarket one to my 71 GMC.

Someone must have done a good bit of trailering. They had an electronic brake controller but they were towing with factory step bumper ball mount. It looks solid where it's mounted to the frame, but I'm going to get a beefier receiver hitch anyway. I prefer the sport style rear bumper.

This step bumper is available if anyone wants it. Just come get it.

That bracket is for the vapor canister, also sometime refer to as a charcoal canister.

A bit of a mess, but this is the picture I took when it first arrived.
