Long weekend of driving, (dropped my daughter off at college) was about 700 miles round trip, then work got in the way as soon as I returned, so no shop time till last night.
I spent most of my time on the tedious stuff, cleaning and painting a bunch of brackets and prepping the power steering box.. I did manage to dig out the rear axle and test fit the disc brakes.. I originally rebuilt this for my sons 68, but since he is headed down the LS path, he snagged my bulletproof custom Dana 60 for his..

I also put the last skim coat on the patch around the heater box, will see if I can finish that tonight and paint the firewall...
Mocked in the front sway bar as I was trying to decide if I need dropped front brackets or not.. I think it might be a good idea, so off come a few more rivets tonight. Last step for the night was adding upper shock re-locators, but I forgot to take pics of them.. They are from POL (Performance Online)

Got a much anticipated pair of boxes in the mail too, ....
I am diving into this one head first, as I ordered a FiTech fuel system..
As they are fairly new just launching their products, you have may not heard of them. Its a bunch of engineers who have been making fuel injection components/systems for the OEM, branching out and trying to help out the aftermarket guys like us.

Fitech has some good ideas and very competitive prices. The fuel command center could have possibilities for other uses too. Haven't heard of them before so a cool find. Thanks for sharing!

Where did the rear brackets, caliper and disc come from? Does that have a parking brake?

The brackets are from Captainfab for the D52 caliper
The calipers are from a 78 Eldarado - The A1 Cardone part numbers for these are 16-4116 and 16-4117. Those are loaded calipers. (I scored them on Evilbay awhile back) they have the emergency brake setup which use the tabs Captainfab makes in the last pic.

The rotors are from the local parts store, they are for '92-'02 Astro AWD Van.
Lots of good info in his thread to assist with the conversion.

I was doing some research online one night, and I think I stumbled on them via another web forum that had a link to them on YouTube. From there I went in search of more info and reviews. While they have not been around along time, the 19 or so engineers that developed the product must have considerable time all together. It may be a risk, who knows but I have done the FAST EZefi on my sons Blazer, and while I like it, i am drawn to the idea of less wiring, boost capable out of the box, and certainly the command center idea is nice if you don't want to run a frame mounted pump or mod an existing gas tank..

When I spoke with them, they are interested to have me document the install for their website.. that would be cool!


Certainly, I was poking around for my logbook to get some more info for you, I found a Wagner number for one of the calipers is CR116349
Didn't find the part number I used for the rotors..

Once I get this installed under the Burb, I will have to make some tabs for the brake lines, of course I'll take some pics to share..

Appreciate that Twisted! I need to improve the stopping power of our 72 Burb and am looking at different options. I believe that style of caliper is on the rear of my 56. While it stops ok, the ratchet style adjustment on mine aren't precise enough. The left rear is a bit too loose and one click tighter is too tight.

Don't know if these operate the same.

Hmmm,
not sure about these, they seems to rotate fairly easily, i will install the brackets and do some non-scientific tests over the weekend to see how they act / feel. Of course no real idea until they are in-service. Thanks for the heads up, will make note of it for sure.

Do you know the size and pitch on that nut for the E-brake lever? I bought calipers without brackets (doh) but then I found someone that sells the brackets and springs, so I have those now, but I dont know what the nut size and pitch is, though I haven't looked at it too hard to figure it out. Just wondering if you knew.

I typically start with a scraper to remove the big chunky stuff.. If degreasing is needed, then it is either done with a pressure washer (never seems to be the case for me :lol:) or more typical, is the slow and tedious manner of spray, wipe, spray, wipe with some sort of degreaser and shop towels. I came across a product called Key Super Degreaser (see description below) which really speeds up this process.
After things are clean, I usually take a grinder with a wire wheel and give it a once over, or I use a flap disk if I need to smooth or remove any rough areas. Depending on conditions, I use the wire wheel before doing any wipe down as it does take off a ton of crap/crud on its own.
For final prep I use a wax and grease remover or Eastwood ‘pre’ cleaner.
I try and do at least two coats of primer followed by 2 or 3 coats of paint. I am really liking satin black, although I do like the look of Eastwood under hood black to.

contaminants. Perfect for engine and driveline degreasing as well as heavy grease industrial applications.
Works well to remove grease from tractors, forklifts and hydraulic equipment”

Well, the weekend did not unfold as I had hoped, but on the positive side, I did spend some quality time alone with the wife.. Always good to keep them happy...

I did manage to take care of a few small items though.

• Installed the front shock mounts and shocks
• since the frame is not dimpled for power steering, I used an adapter bracket from Captainfab
• Removed the old exhaust
• Cleaned the frame rails back to the trailing arm cross-member so I can run new brake,fuel, and air lines for the Accuair
• Scuffed and painted the Hydroboost & booster adapter brackets
• Installed new outer tie rods, inner were done previously

these might be a bit premature and out of sequence on the build, but while at lunch today I decided not to go for a bike ride and instead take a few pics UN-boxing the Fitech system.

First impression:
Really quality looking parts and packaged well. After putting an Fast EZ-EFI on my sons Blazer, this one look even "easier"..

I am excited to say the least.. I was thinking last night, I could easily enough setup the engine and the system on a break in stand and pre-run everything. I think with this setup, it would actually be easy enough to create the final install hose lengths, and wiring layout on a temp stand to break in a cam and validate no leaks etc... then transfer it to its final location without to much fuss. May have to try that out
Almost have the front complete, a couple cotter pins and the sway bar.

Sorry for the delay in responding, but I'll be damned, I found my brackets, but cannot find the lock nuts anywhere.. I am sure they are in a bag inside a box on one of the shelves, but so far no joy!

Figures, as soon as you want something, it decides to hide out.
I'll keep looking as I am going to need them pretty soon!

Moving to the rear, I began to disassemble the rear axle in prep for the C-Notch.. Well, Guess they don't make sockets as good as the old days, with a short breaker bar I ended up with these..

I ended the day after getting the passenger side mocked in. I only need to finish drilling a couple mounting holes, and painting all areas that will be inaccessible.
Forgot to get pics after I started on the rivets.. I have I mentioned how much I hate Rivets!! Especially the ones I couldn't get the grinder on..

No worries. I am not that far along yet anyway.

I actually have so many parts around the house for 3-4 projects I lose them in the house all the time! Sometimes I look for hours to not find it and then have to go on to something else. But I usually find something I was looking for and earlier project, lol

Even though mine are all in the same shop, it's always a gamble whether or not they hide upstairs or down. Usually I think I am being good when I dedicate a shelf for a project, bag things, walk them upstairs and drop them on the right shelf. somehow that only lasts for a week or two. then the mixing magically begins.

I'm pretty sure my son would take over the whole build if I stole his beloved buddy bucket..:lol:

I am going with buckets and console, I'll post a pic of the houndstooth material I have, I just need to decide on the seat color. I removed the third seat to make room for hauling my road bicycle, so I'll have the buckets and second row seat upholstered to match. I have plenty of the houndstooth material so I can do some sort of accent on the door panels and or the rear side panels I have yet to make..

Well,
Been trying to get my photos to upload tonight, but that didn't go so well, so I'll just describe my progress tonight and get the few pics up in the morning.

I finished the c-notch install, which might sound like no biggie, but after doing these in the past with the body off, I can say it goes a bit slower hanging out under the Burb..
After that was done, I pulled the fuel tank to drain it and get a look inside to see what sort of shape its in. Since this sat for about 22yrs, I was afraid it was going to be a mess, but to my surprise it has very little scale on the inside. I got some fuel tank cleaner and will run that through tomorrow after work. Man were the hoses brittle! I pulled out the bags for the rear and looked over my assortment of fittings, seems my bags have a 1/2 port, and my fittings with 1/2 inch threads are rather tall.. Might have to do something about that.. I'll also work on those tomorrow.

Then I took a break from the dusty dirty underside and started to map out where the Accuair components are going to live. I decided that they will go in the back left corner inside and behind what will be the side panel. The lines and harness wiring will exit via a hole in the fuel filler housing cover. I also have a pair of 3 gallon tanks I'm going to run to give me a little extra air so if needed I can fill some bike tires while out on the road. That means I need to decide where to plumb a port for that.. I think the tanks and compressor will have plenty of room aft of the gas tank on either side, which should work out nice..

Well, not as much as I had hoped to do, but the notches took more time than I anticipated, and I spent all of today running around town with the wife and son.

I almost forgot, finished sanding the the heater motor mounting area after the last round of filler.

How do you like the ride of air suspension vs stock?

Wow! Great progress Drew! Can't wait to see the pics. That c-notch sounds like a pain without raising the body off the frame. A bit like performing surgery right?

Surgery is right, Since I won't be towing with this anytime soon, I'm OK with the notch, but if I change my mind down the road, I will re-think on what to do..
Looks like operator error was in play on the camera, however I did manage to save a couple shots.

Here is the completed Notches, just have to tidy up the rest of the frame rails and paint it all. (the bolt sticking down with the nut on it is where the bag cup will attach)

Been toying with the idea of going with some shade of white vinyl, originally I thought about a brown shade, but think the white would look killer.

I also think I might change the interior from the factory argent silver to the saddle to offset the seats and eventual door and side panels. I'll try a sample area to see how it looks, and post it here for some feedback.

I have high hopes for the weekend, lots to do for sure..
