Thanks! I am worried white will be TOO MUCH white... I think grey would offset it and add a little contrast. I dunno how about red and I do the grey in the rims red too... ... its cream till I have time.

I think the gray will make it look just right. Not too much contrast but will make it clear that you're not trying to match the truck. The texture on the camper won't match the finish on the truck no matter how bright of white you paint it. Can't tell for sure, but I'm guessing it has the simulated wood-grain stamped into the aluminum like the one I have does. With the shape and style of the windows, it won't ever really look like it is part of the truck, so it's better to differentiate it from the truck.

And just for a reference point, I think in this case the grey looks great on the wheels and will look integrated when applied to the accessory (canopy). I think red stands a strong chance of looking "applied". Probably a good (unwelcome, ha) analogy would be like lipstick. And it would wash out the features on a white truck. The sculpted bodylines would essentially "disappear" while the canopy was on it. Sorry if this is too much opinion/explanation but I enjoy digging into this kinda stuff.

Bro! Spoken like an artist... I totally see where you are coming from. I have always thought grey was the way to go... as for the red, that was an idea I had for the wheels just to make the truck pop... then the camper came along. Like I mentioned before, it isnt staying on all the time so, its all good. I really need to get it a little lower. It was dropped when I get it and I know it has CPP spindles up front. I just dont know the exact specs on the springs. need to figure that out and order another set to bury it just a little more. the back is easy... thank you for the lesson in aesthetics... glad you confirmed my intentions. :metal:

Thanks for not minding my detailed input. I offer it as my opinion and I don't mean it as criticism of anyone else's opinion. GM put considerable design effort into these trucks and I like that utility and aesthetic design aren't in opposition.

Dude, thats why we are on the forums... I like to take risks when it comes to style and based on they style I am going with.. the shell was a risk and I think it paid off... now I have reassurance and thats exactly what I was looking for. I see cars/trucks my way... which isnt how other see them. I appreciate detail and the work it takes to make it happen! Anyone can bolt parts on... to make it look a certain way - that takes style! I'll throw another vote for the grey. I really don't think there is another choice. These trucks just seem to look right with those old aluminum caps on them. I got one for mine and planned on just putting it on when I needed it it but it has stayed.

After removing the rear bump stops, any trouble with the axle hitting the frame?

Not at all... I just have a flip kit so, there is about 5" of travel without the bump stops and brackets. I have had some weight in the back too - a couple full kegs and giant coolers of ice and she never hit the rails.

Well, I finally got her running smooth, its been a challenge. The PO had the original distributer in the newr crate GM 350 and it didnt have any advance on it, mechanical or vacuum. So, Got a MSD HEI dizzy with vacuum advance and got everything tuned like it should be and bada bing bada boom!

I put my rallys back on too... the US Mags just look plain for an aftermarket wheel on the white... I get more props with the rallys on for some reason.

Sorry I have been off the site for a bit. Since I got the truck running good, I have just been driving the hell out of it and working on my Harley so, no real updates on the C10.

I am about to do some changes in the interior so, stay tuned for that. I am keeping it relatively stock but, trying out something I did with my 67 that turned out really well.

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii

Thanks all, it turned out pretty good. Now I need to move on to the next task of getting some sounds in the truck. Someone cut the doors out for 6x9s along the way and a hole to get to the window motors. It looks like they used a butter knife to do it... I am going to make a panel to cover the bottom of the door and hopefully match the look. Then move the 6x9s to the back in the corners with a singe 12" KICKER sub.

I need to find a good fitting saddle blanket seat cover. I got one off amazon and it barely covered the seat and the damn string that holds it on all broke because of the slippery pleather seat. Any ideas?

BIGglaSS 10-23-2018 10:58 PM

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the 6x9s. Properly tuned front speakers + a sub will be plenty. What do you have for amp and head unit? Let me know what 12" you have and I can help you design a box.

I haven't read any good reviews on saddle blanket seat covers. It sounds like they don't make them like they used to. I'm just going to do a new cover from Acme via rock auto. If you need new seat bottom foam you can get thru ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/12548992-MF...0/162357301815

I have a new Alpine head unit, an Alpine 550 single out amp, 2x 4" coax in the dash, a Kicker 3x9 in the center of the dash, 2x Kenwood 6x9s and a kicker 12" - I think I am gonna get the alpine power pack for my front speakers too...

My only concern is the mounting depth of the 12. I dont want to have to move my seat up if I dont have to. By my measurements, I have 4" at the top of the box and 8.5 at the bottom which makes the 5.5" mounting depth of the 12 really close.

Those measurements sound about right. Box volume is more critical than depth, and you can adjust that with width. My box was .7 cu/ft not counting the port area. For a sealed 12, it will have to be a bit wider than what I built. What's the model # of your kicker 12?

Here is my plan... I have two 12" Kicker COMP Subs.... the box measurements I came up with are 49" wide the top is 4" deep and the bottom is 8.5" deep. I am using 1/2" MDF and I figured it out to be about 1ft of air space per sub - sealed. I'd rather go ported for depth but, I am okay with sealed - and its less work! LOL Right now, I only have the Alpine M650 (550W) amp and its a single channel set up so, I can run both 12s in series until I get another amp.

I am also debated just building a box for one sub and running all the power through it... It will give me room to put crap behind my seat too. What do you think?

These?:
https://www.kicker.com/comp-12-4-ohm-subwoofer

If you can fit it, I think it will work OK. My box is 7.5" at the bottom with the seat all the way back. I'd go sealed with as big of a box that you can fit. I wouldn't go ported with that sub/amp combo, plus the box size would be huge. You would also need the theile/small parameters from Kicker and run it through a modeling program to calculate volume and port tuning.

Kicker doesn't provide enough parameters to run it through a modeling program, so I wasn't able to come up with an "optimum" size. However in the owners manual, it says 1.25-3.5 cu/ft sealed.

Here's a calc that I use for box dimensions/volume:
http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm

That's slightly too much amp for those speakers. But, it should be fine if you keep the gain set low. Wired parallel (optimum), it will see a 2 ohm load. Wired in series (8 ohm) I don't think there is enough power. Whether you run one or two comes down to how much space you want to sacrifice.

What were you thinking about for changing amps?

I think that was the same link that I used to figure out my volume when I did my measurements a little while back. I came up with 1.2ft of airspace for each 12 which should be pretty close.

I plan to cut the box out Wednesday and start slamming it together to finish it by the weekend. We will see. As for the amp, thats what I have right now and dont want to spend too much on another right now - we will see what I can dig up though. I am still saving to turn my life savings over to ridetech for a bag set up "someday".

This weekend its on like donkey kong! Gonna finish up the box, cover it and start wiring up my amp and massage chair (my 12s). I have installed my Alpine Power Pack too. Then its time for tuning. Alpine has an app for that... pretty cool!!! Hopefully, I will have more pics on Tuesday.

Happy Veterans Day to all who served!!! Freedom aint free!

Got it covered. Not sure if I like it yet... I wanted it to look a lil retro to match the truck. That fabric was a nightmare to work with. It frayed and came apart with every cut. It sounds pretty damn good though... the mass volume of speaker helps. :metal: Now I need to spend some time and tune it. The Alpine app is pretty complicated and I have a lot to learn to get it where it should be... for now though... she pumps!

My neighbor has a black aluminum one that would be perfect on your truck. It probably isn't worth an 8hr drive though.

dude, I love my shell.... some people say "it would look so much better without the shell" but, its my truck and I need it. It rains a lot where I live in Hawaii ... but, most importantly, I don't like to be like everyone else. If that were the case, I would drive a Tacoma just like everyone here. HAHA!

Hell ya, start a Camper thread, I was looking for pics of squares with campers before I got mine but, there weren't any. :waah:

As for the speaker box, bro, that was a royal PITA. That fabric sucks to work with - there were some lessons learned.

I have to say again, love your truck! Pretty much settled on white for my 80 for the first iteration of body work/paint and your truck is definitely an inspiration.

You may even have convinced me to go with 20's instead of 17's

Love that cap and with you being in Hawaii its even more impressive the finds you've had.

Do you have any more photos of your truck with the black steel wheels on it, besides the beginning of the thread?
