This is a great thread. I have enjoyed reading all of the responses and checking out the photos. I can almost imagine what it was like to be there at that time!

This thread is a good idea.

Lets see some more of our trucks when they were "YOUNG" !!!

You notice the GMs are being transported by a GM, man what happened????

Love the thread though.

It was quite common in the 70's to see a GMC, like that one, hauling GM cars and trucks - NOT ANYMORE !!!

AND, you reminded me of a picture I have of an "old GMC" taken in 1976.

My 1971 GMC Astro 95 - with a couple of Deere's instead of GM's !!!

NOW - who's going to be the first to ask: " How did you ever get out of that parking space " ?

this thing never get's old !
I post it from time to time and just sit back and watch !!!!!!!

some of the popular debated parts are
#1 is the truck a 67 or 68 ?
#2 what is the car behind the wreck ?
#3 is the vinyl top of the 67 camaro peeled up ? or is the top buckled ?
#4 who's fault was it ?
#5 where is it ?

fun all around

Here's a '67 I had back when I was a kid working the rigs. Musta been about 78 or 79 or so. Those days are a little hazy now.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y55...h/FH000001.jpg

Here some of that same truck 10 years later. The guy standing on the hood of the derby car is the same guy in the rig picture-me and Jeff been bros for 40 years now.:metal:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y55/gpritch/demo87.jpg

High School buddy-Clark had a 65 or 66 Galaxy convertable

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y55...onvertable.jpg

One day, Jeff tried to pull Clark's Hi-boy Ford out of the mud with his Jeep.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y55/gpritch/ruts.jpg

He got it out, but the Jeep suffered.

Dang good times. Good thread.

Still yet ANOTHER load of new Chevy trucks being delivered by a GMC "crackerbox" tractor ( probably has the 230HP V6 Detroit Diesel )

Yenko Chevrolet in 1968.

. . . two other dealerships in 1969 or 70.

. . . and another shot of the "truck center" at Yenko Chevrolet in Cannonsburg PA.

Since we are looking at Car Haulers, here's a few -

http://i1016.photobucket.com/albums/...tellhauler.jpg

http://i1016.photobucket.com/albums/...ellhauler2.jpg

You'll notice these two haulers are owned by the "FJ Boutell Company" - significant to me since I had not one but two uncles who drove for Boutell. In fact, one of my uncles is the gentleman that loaned Mr Boutell the money to start his company.

Ever hear an urban legend about a truck driver that ripped the top off a Buick showcar via a freeway overpass; the car being saved and subsequently turned into a convertible? That would be my Uncle Joe. Fortunately, his relationship with Mr Boutell (and their earlier financial transaction) probably saved his job that day.

I posted these pics over in the payload thread but I guess they qualify as vintage as well. This is my grandfather's 1970 C20 bringing in a load of hay during the winter of 1976.

My grandfather and this truck are the reason I'm a Chevy man today and why I bought my truck a little over a year ago. He was a great man, and I have many wonderful memories of going fishing in this truck and flying down the interstate at 60 mph with about 6 of my cousins in the back fighting over who got to sit on the wheel tubs.

This truck worked hard as a Minnesota farm truck its whole life and rotted away to nothing years ago, but I think of my grandfather every time I get in to my little C10.

Yep - should be either Popular Hot Rodding - or "Chevelle - Chevy's Mid Size Muscle" (or something like that )

It's come a long ways in the last 33 years.

My first Chevy truck. Photo taken as I arrived home after buying it from a farmer for $150. Circa 1980, I was about 18. The smile says it all. 1956 C20 long step, 283 and a 4 speed. The farmer told me he had bought it new, and had never washed it. The years of oxidation had protected the paint, and that dark forest green shone like new after a few hours with some compound and a buffer.

Of all the vehicles I have owned, this is the one I most regret selling. 1967 Chevelle SS396 with a Muncie M21 and a 12-bolt posi rear. Photo circa 1982, taken on Peppertree Lane in Simi Valley, CA.

As you can see in the pics the 70 was for sale back then. So it was gone after we used it as a work horse. My dad owned the 67 from 84/85 to 2000/2001 he replace the inline 6 once during that time. Sold it to a graveyard and says they are still using it:metal:.Said it was the best dump he's ever owned. By some of the other pics we have I can see why. He loaded that thing up like that all the time. Gotta love:chevy:
