Re: Project Underhaulin Update?

James, Russ has it under control, 5150 is pretty well in the know as well. There were legal issues and problems that quite frankly are no ones business.

I myself do not like the lack of public update, but Russ was thrown a major bs fest taking this on. Please allow him the time and faith needed to finish what he is doing. These men have more time and labor into this project than most can imagine. Not to mention dealing with the legal red tape and other issues that arose.

I message and ask from time to time, and Josh is updated as well. I get the want to know, but please allow them room to finish and reveal.

Thanks

Sorry, this delay was on me. Waited all day for 6 yards of concrete which arrived late afternoon on Fri. I had to rake and float it myself, so was in no condition to do anything the rest of the evening except have a cold brew or three. I had to let Russ know I was not gonna make it.
Waiting or Russ to give me another day/time this week to ride over there

Ok, I'm throwing in the towel. It's been almost a month since I heard from Russ, and my two txt's during that time have gone unanswered. I have better things to do in life than keep asking the same question over and over again.

Russ seems like a good guy, but he knows what kind of issues not having a single photo of the truck in over two years has caused.....yet it's not high on his "list".

Liz posted this a few responses back:

I respectfully disagree, every single member here that either donated time or any amount of money should have the right to ask questions and get answers with the aid of the moderators.

This whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth which includes my own mistakes. I do not feel like the forum owners and Mods have stepped up to the plate to make sure the member's interests here were represented very well. I myself apologize to everyone for not being able to bring this thing to a conclusion.

If anyone-else wants to pick up the torch, feel free to PM me.

Pointing fingers at the Mods certainly isn't beneficial. They are all volunteers and not capable of initiating anything. I wasn't even a Moderator when this all came down. I donated a complete matched lock set for the project, but I never really followed the thread.

I donated parts or cash ,cant remember ,dont matter ,I still think it is a project worth waiting on in memory of those who died way too soon .Once I donate something ,its no longer mine and I dont worry about it .The members who took this on did it for the love of another person and deserve the time it takes . Just my rambling thoughts ,Russ does have a day job and family that comes first as it should .

Same here. I don't have a rooster in the fight so I just watch at a distance. The sadness that got this project off the ground, then her death? Geez.

I say, let's just give it some time.

Re: Project Underhaulin Update?

Hmmmm ... I'm not sure what to think about all this ... trying to remember details about all this from several yrs ago. However, I do remember calling & actually talking to ?Russ? (he put phone # in post on original thread about truck build). I had a WTF frame of mind when rang him, because I had bought a new dash pad for the project & had it drop shipped there. He was appreciative that I called instead of just trashing him on the forum. He thoroughly answered every question I asked him (I had written out a list of them) & had a genuine concern about the whole situation, only wanting to make it right. In the end, about 30+ minutes phone conversation, I felt pretty bad for the guy and could come up with no real advice or answers on how he should handle it all. I remember just thinking "damn what a mess".
I'm over it all now ... a bought lesson is the best kind ... thankful I only had less than $100 in it all; I know some are not that lucky.

It is a bad deal, but would be nice to see it completed and let the people in control do what they need to with it. People shouldn't be throwing stones. They obviously have no idea what all goes into a build like this in these circumstances. I'm sure this truck has became more of a heart ache for all involved lately rather than joy and happiness.

Re: Project Underhaulin Update?

I know this is probably not my place to say and it is been said before but, a few pictures of the truck in it's current state would have been nice. I realize some people don't have modern cameras an such , but this has gone on a long time , and Im sure everybody would just have been happy to have seen the progress of the truck . I only put in a few buck towards the truck a very long time ago , but I have watched this fall apart slowly. I would be very unlikely to donate or participate in a donation for a cause for somebody if there is no end result. There is almost no reason for somebody to not be able to produce a pic of the current truck condition( ask a friend/relative to take a pic if you don't have a camera) to prove the work that was done. I get that life gets in the way , but nobody is literally that busy.

The point is many promises made(even a simple pic) but never any action shown. That is how you separate a line of BS from other circumstances. Is been a decade on this project, when will those saying "dont thrown stones now, give him a break" wake up? Not even one of his local supporters can get an update or pics, hmm?

I believe a civil, respectful discussion is in order here and should be had. People need to be held accountable and give answers, The time for latitude has been eroded by broken promises and inaction.

Re: Project Underhaulin Update?

After all this I don't believe the truck exists anymore. If it does prove it, a couple simple pics of it in it's current state would suffice.

Russ, sent me a few pics today of the progress. The truck will also be on display at the 2017 Southeastern ALL Chevy/GMC Truck Nationals on July 15th in Goodlettsville, TN.

I deleted it to clean out my inbox long ago, but the best I can recall is that when the person that had the truck most recently called to ask about her condition, one of the siblings pretended to be dawn and said she was getting better... and this was after she had actually passed :(

When I asked the truck was complete (or just needed stuff like the trim put back on) but basically done, but they didn't know what to do because Dawn didn't leave the truck to anyone in particular in the will, but they were sure one of the older grandsons was meant to get it, but he's still a minor, and I guess from knowing the family/situation, the guys building the truck knew it would just get sold immediately for cash if it was given to a family member of age before it could go to a grandson that would cherish it.

That's where they were stuck at and why the thread was closed.

That's all 2nd hand info (maybe 3rd) and to the best of my recollection.

I'm glad to see a picture of the truck, and it must be an old pic because it was supposed to be just ready for trim . Thanks

No "Thanks" needed. That person was mistaken on the progress of the truck. If you would like to see it in person you are more than welcome to come to Nashville this Saturday and see it.

Bryan, is it going to Nashville as a complete/drivable truck, or on a trailer with some body panels bolted on?

I was actually planning on attending the show, but kinda forgot it was my wife's birthday weekend, and she wanted to go to Raleigh, NC to see Dierks Bentley for her gift.

This is the text from Russ that I got this morning when I confirmed he was still bringing it.

"Yes sir. I don't think it will be done but it will be close enough for display. I have been working my tail off on it but it has been an uphill battle."

No apologies needed or expected from anybody as far as I'm concerned. Main goal is to get the project done like it was promised. There is no one here that has donated time, money, or parts to this project who isn't disappointed that the road was longer than expected. We're almost to the light at the end of the tunnel and ultimately that's the main thing.

Fair enough.

Russ is probably sitting back and wondering how he became the bad guy to a bunch of people that he never even met.

Been following along since the beginning. I'd never consider Russ a bad guy. Clearly his heart was in the right place. Maybe a little too ambitious in his plans (who isn't guilty of that?) and I'm assuming he was embarrassed because of the lack of progress so he "disconnected" from the community.

I just don't see the attempt to deceive here.

I didn't take too many pics yesterday but we were parked right next to him (and stole some of his canopy space during the downpours!). It looks really, really good. In talking with the guy that came up with him, he is WAAAY more financially invested in getting it finished than most people seem to realize. I hope for his sake they can get finished quickly and that wrapping it up with the family goes smoothly.

That is awesome. Actually brings tears to my eyes when begin to think about all the work, money, time, energy, travel miles, comraderie and conflict that has went into this truck. I believe Dawn would be proud.

Glad to see it made it to the show in one piece. I think all the drama could have been avoided if there was constant communication. I know this build has been going on for a long time, but no matter the time line you have to update progress.

5150 puts on some good shows! Been there myself to see it.

Hope to see a video soon of the final disposition.
