Re: 92 Sonoma
I am taking the interior out this weekend to look at the rust on the floor boards, and the passenger side seat belt bolt stripped out on me. The one on the cab floor, now how to I go about removing it? Do I jsut drill it out and re tap it or something?
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
It's not boxed in, you could drill it out, then nut and bolt it. Also, you might be able to twist the nut off from underneath with vise grips or knock it off with a chisel or air chisel.

Re: 92 Sonoma
Well, got one problem fixed on the truck today. I hate the rubber mat with insalation underneath cause all it does is trap water. This truck had a little rust hole in it. I cut that out, made some patch panels, and welded it up.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ress/012-9.jpg The black out line is were I marked it to cut. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ress/014-5.jpg After cutting. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ress/015-7.jpg My second attempt at making patches. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ress/016-3.jpg Welded up. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ress/018-4.jpg Grinded down. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ress/019-3.jpg And now some primer. |
Re: 92 Sonoma
not bad at all
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
nice patch work, I have a 91 s10 2.8 . I had a mufflershop remove my cat and install a flowmaster I had from a junk car i got. sounds pretty decent and after the cat was removed my truck started running better. feels like it unleashed a pony or two. but it's still a 2.8 not to many gerbils can be unleashed without some major mods.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Nice work with the patch panels!
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Thanks guys, this was my second ever attempt at making patch panels. Not to bad for a ball pin hammer and a bench vise.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
You're getting pretty good at rust repair. Is that the only spot you have to deal with?
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Yup, its the only rust hole anyway. There are to more holes, one under the seat and on in the roof. The one under the seat had a rubber hose with some wire running through it and the one in the roof is the CB antena. I plan to patch them when I get from Texas.

Re: 92 Sonoma
How hard is a 3.4 swap on these trucks? I just got a complete running 3.4 and 5 speed out of a 95 camero from a friend of mine.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Should be fairly simple, lots of info on the 'net. Here's a good site from a fellow up this ways, scroll down for tech stuff.

Re: 92 Sonoma
Will an altenator off a 94 3.4L V-6 work on my 91 2.8L V-6?
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Whats the easiest way to get the door hinge pins out on the driver side? I bought new pins cause my driver side door is hard to shut and its saggin really bad, the top pin is almost broken in two. Any help is appreciated.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
I just put a jack under the door and use a drift and hammer to knock the pins out, then a big pair of channel locks to get the bushings out and install the new bushing. If im not mistaken I think they may be two different size bushing for each pin so make sure u put the right bushing in the right spot before installing the pin or it will be just a loose as before.

Re: 92 Sonoma
This is starting to be routine, get one thing fixed something else breaks, either by my foolish self or the truck. I got the bolt that was stripped out of the passenger side seat belt and I replaced the door pins. But I was loading scrap Thursday night and I shattered my back glass :waah: It was my own fault and I wasnt mad at anyone or anything, just kinda stood there as it shattered lol. I was throwing go-kart pistons in the bed and clipped the corner of the glass.

Re: 92 Sonoma
Ran into a little problem, I need new alternator brackets, but where do I find them? The bracket on the bottom broke off, and so did the one on the side towards the drver side of the alt. Does anyone know where I can find some after market stock brackets at?
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Not really an up-date, just some pics of the little beast.
Back glass the night I shattered it. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/002-32.jpg Taken out, drove like this for a week. It was cold... http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/003-28.jpg This is one of the bolt I had to remove, this was the passenger side seat belt bottom bolt. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/004-25.jpg I also replaced the door pins on the driver side, door shuts and opens nice and easy now. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/008-15.jpg The truck earning its keep, for a $600 truck, it has defiantly paid for itself by a long shot. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/010-14.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/012-10.jpg I ended up have 1500LBs in the bed of the truck, brought me $150, plus some aluminum. It totaled out to be $179. |
Re: 92 Sonoma
What wire comes from the fuel sending unit and goes to the gauge?
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
The pink one.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
I need some help, my fuel gauge doesnt really work. Its hard to really explain what it does, but Im thinking its the guage thats the problem. How can I go about testing this?
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Maybe check the ground wire from the sender unit to the frame. Is your gauge bouncing around or kinda doing what it wants? Are the other gauges working OK?
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Every other gauge works perfect. On the fuel guage, it pretty much stays in one position no matter how much gas I put in the truck, even when i shut it off, it still stays in that same place.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Try putting the pink wire direct to ground.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
So just touch the pink wire to the cab floor?
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Yeah, that'll do. See if the guage moves.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
its most probably the sending unit. Mine only works when its almost to E and it just bounces around when it does. Once you put any gas in it, it just goes way past F and stays there until your almost out of gas. Its done the same thing with 2 different guages. Its possible it is the guage, but s10s are notorious for having sending unit problems.

Re: 92 Sonoma
Been doing some body work past 2 days. Gonna try to paint it over my Christmas break.
Had to shrink the 2 spots you can see in the hood. Started filling one dent, Im guessing someone decided my hood was a seat and left a nice size dent. Not deep, but wide. Well here are the pics. Here is were I started yesterday http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/005-19.jpg Todays progress http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/006-17.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/007-16.jpg Tomorrow Im gonna get the hood done, hopefully, and start on the driver side fender. Tell me what ya'll think so far. |
Re: 92 Sonoma
looks good, your not afraid thats for sure! I don;t know what brand filler your using but dont use bondo brand. get like some cheap evercoat or something.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Why you say I aint affraid lol? And bondo is all I got right now, Ill get some evercoat this weekend.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
didnt mean it was a bad thing.. most people dont have the balls to atempt repairs like u do
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
I knew it wasnt a bad thing, I was just wandering man. Yeah I was kinda worried about using a torch on my truck, but then I thought, whats the worst that could happen? I need a new hood lol? Ya never learn if you dont try. I got the smaller dent pretty much done tonight. Im going to buy some better filler tomorrow as you suggested too.

Re: 92 Sonoma
Well got some up-dates. Last night I bought a hood, set of power doors, set of bucket seats with console, clear marker lights up front, and a good set of fender trim all for $125. Does anyone know how to wire the doors up? And where would be the best place for me to get new window motors and stuff? The truck was a flood truck so I got to get the doors working agian.
Another question I got is my belt keeps getting torn up and coming off. All my brackets seem to be in line, but the tensioner pulley is kicked out a little bit agian. I have already replaced it once for being out of line. Also, does anyone know how to delete the pollution pump? I saw a guide on a site once but cant remember how I found the site. Anywho, Ill get some pics of everything soon. And thanks for any help ya'll can give me. |
Re: 92 Sonoma
Just some up-dates on what Im currently doing to the truck. Havent been doing anything to the actual truck, its been way to cold here with more snow than Ive ever seen. I have though been working on the dash, as its small enough to fit into my room for me to work on. Over Christmas break I started glassing and smoothing my dash, nothing custom or anything just a smooth stock dash.
I started out by taking all the blue crap off it and then started putting some fiberglass down. Now Im in the filling and smoothing stage. But anyway here are the pics. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/002-33.jpg The only custom thing in the whole dash(except I did delete two air vents) is where my radio goes. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/001-27.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/003-29.jpg Here are the most recent pics I got. These are from yesterday and today. It was warm enough for me to work in the garage this weekend so I got alot more done then usual. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x.../Photo0107.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x.../Photo0110.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x.../Photo0112.jpg And some stuff that did get done to the truck. First is my new exhaust, single in/dual out muffler running out the back at 45's with 3 1/2 in by 18 in tips. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x.../Photo0117.jpg And second I got my new to me bottom lights installed and with that I also got my blinkers working agian. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x.../Photo0116.jpg And sorry about the way the pictures are, the first few were taken with my now broke camera and the ones after that were taken with my phone. |

Re: 92 Sonoma
Oh trust me, the first belt I put on there looked like that. I got it all fixed now, ended up having to get my bottom alternator bracket re-welded. The bracket had snapped and I didnt realize it.

Re: 92 Sonoma
Got a bit of an up-date. I replaced the original hood with a dent free one I got off a Blazer. I also finished getting the front end in primer, now I'm working my way back to the cab.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x.../Photo0191.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x.../Photo0196.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x.../Photo0197.jpg I also got a set of bucket seats from a blazer and installed them(no pictures though). I still haven't finished my dash yet, lost motivation to finish it. That and I don't really know what the hell I'm doing on it. And last but not least I fixed a major exhaust leak. I had 2 broken manifold bolts on the passenger side and 1 broken bolt on the driver side. Now its all nice and quiet in the cab. |
Re: 92 Sonoma
Awesome dude, lookin' a whole lot better. Let's see pics of the seats, eh.
|
Re: 92 Sonoma
Hey old build, long time no see....I've been busy with end of the year exams and graduation stuff. I did finally manage to work on the truck some more though. Today I started putting 2 inch blocks in the rear to help level it out for now. Tomorrow I will be putting my new clutch kit in it. So wish me luck and hopefully Ill have some before and after pics with the drop.

Re: 92 Sonoma
Well, I ended up selling this truck got $500 outta her.
