Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
It's running. We had to replace the injection pump and now chasing down a few leaks. Other than that, it's coming along nicely.

Update....Burb is running, just not driving quite yet. Gotta adjust the 700R4 tv cable, run exhaust and should be good to go.....
I built a auxiliary battery box and a front replacement bumper ( sorta winch style without the winch ). Still got to finish welding the bumper up and smooth/blend joints. I am hoping it looks good on there, but we shall see very soon. When I get it mounted, I will post more pics..... I will also be posting more pics of swap process and other things changed on the burb. hope you fellas like the change! Here are some pics of the unfinished bumper and aux. battery box. |

An update....
Got the burb running and tranny adjusted out. Had new exhaust ran. Next thing will be to change springs out. I am taking off the Skyjacker 4 in spring lift, and putting about an 2 1/2 - 3 inch lift back on. I will then be selling the Skyjacker kit, which has about 10 miles on it, just a little high for this DD. I will then be replacing the entire front clip, with a 67 Chevy front end. Will add new aux battery tray and front replacement bumper as well. In the pic, is my first trip to buy Diesel fuel. Those are 235/85/16's on the tank, and trying to decide to go up to 255/85/16's in the same tire, which is Cooper Discoverer ST's. Really like the tread, just not sure about size? Feel free to give opinion, because might help me decide. |
Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
I think 285/75/16 wrapped on those skinny steels would look tough.

Hey Tommy, how bout a side shot to see the rear axle centerline.

Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
Something about a 4x4 with tall skinny tires just gets me excited. Definately tough but classy and tasteful!

Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
Nice swap! Are you going to add a turbo? Gassers are ok for most but when you want to have it all then you step up to diesel. You can't tell I'm a diesel tech can you? Looks like a fairly straight forward swap. Close to the same dementions as a small block. I too like the 67-68 front clips especially the GMC's.

Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
If you decide to go with a turbo on that thing, I know someone with a complete setup.;)

The Burb is looking good Tommy. I think I would like it a little lower too, but you know how short I am...:) LockDoc |

Hey, did you use SBC perches and BBC mounts or did you do something different to get the 6.2L to fit?

Thank's bud! My bro wants to pull the 6.2L out of his dually and put it in his 71, so that helps! they both have SM465's so it will be cake!

Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
Awesome build so far, looking it all over for inspiration and information for my swap. I am swapping a 6.2 out of an 83 K20 into my 69 K20. Just picked up the donor truck today. The 83 has an automatic but my 69 has a 4spd. Wanted to swap the auto in but can't decide if it would be easier to just keep the 4spd and 205 and just bolt the 6.2 up as is. Would that work without having to move the tranny and transfer case? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
