Re: faux-tina paint jobs
There is a guy in my area with a mid 60's VW Bug with a faux patina job. It looks like the areas were sanded down to bare metal and then he cleared the whole car. Now its shiny with a patina look. Its cool, but when you get close you see the shine. That part I dont like.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
I thought the faux-tina was soo cool I ordered the video from Trucks. They sent me a video labled faux-tina but it was just a recap of several other episodes. I called their 800 number several times and emailed several times and never got any response. I will never order anything from Trucks or Horsepower TV again.
Thought I would let you know before you get ripped off like I did. |
Re: faux-tina paint jobs
I know fauxtina is a love or hate thing, but I love them and think I'm gonna give it a shot!

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
Worst case and you dont like it, repaint it.

My truck has quite a bit of real patina, so I will use that as a guide if I get around to doing it. |
Re: faux-tina paint jobs
Yeah, stick to the online version. Like I said, they sent me the wrong video then ignored all my phone calls and emails. No refund....nothing.

<edit>This is a favorite of mine. I think I have talked myself into doing my truck, only following the existing patina pattern. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Z0t3lOg3-1...rs2008+008.jpg |

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
I posted this up many times wish i had more photos. I am really not into the fake patina stuff but when i had my truck the body shop painted it red oxide primer and I ended up not liking the color. So I primered it all black and left the top part white. After sometime I missed the orange color and tried sanding it down and got to tired to finish the sanding and it ended up like this. Wish I had more pictures of it but got lost when comp crashed.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
I figure I have the perfect flat black base coat for a faux-tina when this coat starts to wear.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
I think you have a great looking truck as it is, why not just color sand the hood only and reclear it, or you could sand it down, fix it, and then reshoot the basecoat and then clear it, you could learn body work and probably end up with a nice looking paint job.

Here ya go Chizzler, this is what they came out with. May just be me but I think it looks pretty dang sharp! Definitely gonna go this route!

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
Damn, I love it. I need to get my interior done before I do too much more on my paint. But I might paint the bed I got since it's mostly bare metal now.
|
Re: faux-tina paint jobs
Hell yea, its pretty kick ass! It'll be a while before I can paint mine like this but I've already started on the black base.

Miller92, thanks for posting the big bad brown version of Chizzler's ride. That is darn near spot on what I want to do to my '65. Perhaps with the brown just a shade lighter, kind of like this:

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
No problem Roadster. The light brown looks pretty good too!

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
I think Chizzler's truck is a good example of a well done faux-tina paint job. It seems like it should be easy to do but a lot of times they just look a little "off". The truck they did on "Trucks!" looked ok but I think they went too far with it. It looked better before they started adding the white and silver.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
While not a truck this is a good example of fake patina...I posted it in a previous patina thread and I guess it's worth re-posting.
