Re: Little Blue
Nice work. That's taking "While I'm at it, I might as well..." to the max.

Re: Little Blue
Got the frame back the other day..

Re: Little Blue
Frame looks awesome, Now that you can start reassembly it becomes a downhill run.
|
Re: Little Blue
Got the brake line, brake light wires, and the fuel line installed on the frame today.
http://i1356.photobucket.com/albums/...psf7e6a8d7.jpg Now what are some good big block lowering springs? Or do I have to change out my springs? |
Re: Little Blue
I would say you should change them out as they were built for the 4.3 first from the factory. Take your time and do some research and find out what other guys are using. Ask and ye shall be rewarded--isn't that what he said !!! Awesome job so far--if your not sure---ASK !!!!!!! Someone will know or know where to look !!!
|
Re: Little Blue
Looking good! As for the springs, try asking DirtyLarry. I know he swapped a 454 into a 4.3 truck.
|
Re: Little Blue
Well the springs I got are belltech 3 in lowering springs for a sbc, will these work?
|
Re: Little Blue
Well; If your putting in a sbc they are perfect !!!!
|
Re: Little Blue
Awesome work keep at it.
Rally wheels rock |
Re: Little Blue
Hello all, got some progress done here recently. Been of work for my back for the past 6 weeks, so got a lot of sanding done. Gotta get back to work and order me some body mounts. Anywho, here are a couple of pics.
Got bored so started to sand down the firewall http://i1356.photobucket.com/albums/...ps701cb2a0.jpg And here is where under the cab is at, almost ready for primer http://i1356.photobucket.com/albums/...ps06b744a8.jpg |
Re: Little Blue
Frame looks great, & everything else is coming along nicely as well. Any idea why the old frame paint didn't stick? Not sure if it's anything like POR-15, but I know that stuff isn't made to work with a bare metal. Good luck with the continued progress!

Re: Little Blue
Got some interesting news this Christmas, my Grandpa on my mothers side is giving me his 53 GMC half ton, needs restoring but Im excited.
|
Re: Little Blue
Good deal getting the "54" but don't get off track with little blue. You have too much time and work invested to stop now. Use as incentive to get her done so you can then move to the next project.
|
Re: Little Blue
Little Blue is more than just a project to me, its what I'm building in memory of my cousin. So actually tomorrow I'm gonna start getting underneath the cab painted and hopefully order my new cab mounts
|
Re: Little Blue
Awesome!! 53 is one of my favorite Chevy trucks, looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
I suggest Jag IFS, just a little hint. |
Re: Little Blue
So how we doing on lil blue?
|
Re: Little Blue
Underneath the cab is almost half paint and this pay day I'm ordering new body mounts

Re: Little Blue
Well a little up-date on the truck. With the extremely cold weather and the fact that my garage dont keep heat that well, Ive taken a break from the truck for now. Since I got some time on my hands and the fact I wrecked my 97 Silverado, Ive been working on it for the time being. I gotta get a new bumper, brackets, core support, passenger fender, and I think the frame is tweaked so it needs to go to the local frame shop for a check. On the other hand I did also order a tailgate handle re-locator kit for it and about got it finished.(bought the kit before the wreck) AND I went a looked at a place of my own the other day, living with the parents is getting a little old. So, I aint been sitting idle just been really busy doing other things here lately. :metal:
|
Re: Little Blue
It's been cold down here too and mine hasn't been doing much but sitting in the cold shop too. Although it did get driven in an ice storm yesterday. I definitely got to fix my defroster fan.
|
Re: Little Blue
I guess you southern boys are getting a little taste of Northern weather. We had a heat wave today up to about 35.
|
Re: Little Blue
Haha we southerners dont like the cold. If we did we would live up north lol
|
Re: Little Blue
Frame is mounted
|
Re: Little Blue
Here is the proof haha, gonna put the rear stuff together first.

Re: Little Blue
[What intake is that you are running? Do you have the part number?
Thanks QUOTE=GMC91;5992115]Long time no up-date..been doing a lot with her since I bought another truck to drive around in. First thing I did was junk the TBI and swapped it carbed. http://i1356.photobucket.com/albums/...psdc476918.jpg Got tired of the engine bay looking like crap and the engine looking awesome, so now Im in the process of smoothing the inside fenders and firewall.Started out by welding patch panels into the big holes and just mig welded the smaller ones up. http://i1356.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6a7d0520.jpg Got the passenger side fender almost ready for paint tonight, shot it with some epoxy primer then some filler primer. http://i1356.photobucket.com/albums/...pse30b9c6c.jpg Sorry all pics were takin with my phone, not the best on being the same size.[/QUOTE] |
Re: Little Blue
Looks like it's coming along nicely. Wish I had half the motivation you have, then I could get some work done on my project.
|
Re: Little Blue
Nice work on the fenders! I need to do that to mine when I get around to actually painting it.
|
Re: Little Blue
Dragracer, its just a summit brand tbi to carb intake. Cost maybe $150...
Everyone else thank you, I recently traded my 97 Silverado with a bent frame for a decent straight body no rust 91 Suburbon. I say decent, its in great shape for what it is and what I traded for it. But I have had to do some work to it so that where my time is going. Cant skip out on your DD |
Re: Little Blue
Solid work man, what all was involved with swapping to a carb? Like electronics and all that?
|
Re: Little Blue
The one main thing I did was disconnect the stock fuel pump and put an in0line pump instead. Other than that I just removed all the wires for the TBI. Your check engine light will stay on but doesnt mean anything.
|
Re: Little Blue
Your truck is coming along nicely man I look forward to updates.
|
Re: Little Blue
Thanks man, keep up the good work.
|
Re: Little Blue
Love the look of that engine! Truck is coming together.
|
Re: Little Blue
Progress!!! Ok not that much but still, getting closer to having rear wheels underneath her again...it has been a year.
Rear stuff sandblasted. http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...psdce9780e.jpg Both hangers are mounted. Using grade 8 bolts, hope these are strong enough. http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...psd33991dd.jpg http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps5d058b05.jpg Started on the rear end. Ive had it re-built, now to just get it painted. http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps20364024.jpg http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps5eb1e0c1.jpg Where it sits now, gonna take a few days break then get started on it again. http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps7446314b.jpg Got bored while the paint was drying on the brackets and took the dash out. http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...psc85a4f89.jpg And my new daily driver. 88 Silverado 116,000 original miles. Trade my 91 Suburban in and got this. http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps82843c91.jpg |
Re: Little Blue
Progress is progress, no matter how little! Keep at it. Already mentioned it in your other thread, but the '88 looks like a great find.
|
Re: Little Blue
AGREED Every little bit counts. The 88 looks great! (I am prejudice to white SWB fleets though ;) )
|
Re: Little Blue
Grade 8 will be plenty strong enough for spring brackets as long as the bolts fit the holes.
