paintman happy new year.rear is a chevelle 12 bolt.im thinking around a 70.it would be great if you got a build thread going.our trucks share alot of the same stuff.if i can be of any help let me know.

Hey thanx Chizz! I guess I'll do that. The only problem is your going to embarrass me with the type of work your doing. Plus the fact that I get this common disorder called lack of funds and interest. I may work on my truck for a month straight and then have to walk away from it for 6 months. But I guess my own thread makes sense, I can post all my issues in one place instead of all over the world. I'll try and get the thread started tonight.

i am very lucky to be able to work on my truck in a full fab hot rod shop.(not mine)i do not have any other hobbies (drugs,women,ets)money is always going to be a issue but i feel you should try and buy the best parts you can and make the best of it.my suburban took 2 years start to finish.in that time i sold a 66 swb to fund my punch list until my house sold.i told myself i would replace it when the time came.the house finally sold and was able to replace it with something a little older.good luck and i like were your going with it.chizzler

couple up date pics.got everything mocked up except the air tank.were going to leave the bed on the frame till it shows up.took the cab off to start finishing up the welding and cleanup.going to tear it all down soon to prep for paint and prep on the inside and bottom of cab.only going to fix the areas on the body that we have to.does anyone know who makes a original style rear window gasket with the holes in it?thanks chizzler

thanks guys.i have found the rear window seal but not like the original that has holes in it for the inner metal panel to bolt to the outer metal die cast ring.i will keep looking.thanks

Yeah, that's why I said it doesn't look right. The original one that I have goes around the glass and is one piece with holes where the bolts to go through. Let me know if you find a place that has those.

thanks yelr.steele rubber has one for $90 with not pictures on line.that is about 4 times what everyone else sells them for so i will make a call to find out.when are you gonna put some pics up?

Hey Chizzler, let me know what you find out from Steele Rubber. I would be interested in getting one that's like the original. As far as putting up pics, I'm still collecting parts for the project so no "real" progress yet but I love what you and paintman are doing! When I get to a point where I can start I'll put something up here.

found out from steele rubber today that the the back window gasket does not come with holes in it.they are drilled once it is in place.it is a vulcanized 1 piece seal.

So do you think there is a down side to using the less expensive one from Jim Carter or similar place? For the cost difference it might be worth it to experiment with it and if it turns out to be less than satisfactory it's really not that big a deal.
I was going to put a couple of pictures up on here of what my truck looked like when I got it but I'm not sure how to do that.

i do think buying the $19 one would be worth it.thats a $70 savings.if the pics are in your computer you go to advanced then click the manage attachments and it will direct you.

Hey Chizz! If you have a chance can you take a couple of close up pics of how you mounted your bumper. It looks like you made some kind of pockets for it. It looks as if you and I ran into the same trouble with our sway bars where we had to make extensions to the frame rails. I was trying to figure out the best way to mount my bumper. I might copy yours if ya don't mind. I was just going to through bolt into the frame extensions I made, but your deal might help solve a couple of other problems I have.

on my year truck the bumper bracket would have bolted flat onto the frame horns.we had to cut them off when we channeled the cab.we ended up cutting up the used brackets i got and welding them to the frame.we kinda just made it work.your extended frame horns might need to be cut down not to interfere with the front fenders.my sway bar mount is only a few inches from the bumper bracket cut outs.

Overall I think the frame is about an 1 1/2 longer then stock. My bumper originaly bolted to 2 bumper horns that slid up into the frame and then had a bolt run through them from the top of the frame and nutted on the bottom. With the sway bar bushing mounts now having nuts on the inside of the frame it doesn't allow me to slide those horns back in to there original spot. that's why I thought those pockets you made looked pretty slick.

we threw the horns out and welded to the outside of the frame.if you already have bumper brackets then just fit them and bend a little and make them work.

finally the air tank showed up.we set it up behind the gas tank and made a louvered panel to fill the back where the bed floor came up.we also got the firewall holes filled and finished the cab and cleaned up all the welds.next will be sand blasting the cab.thanks chizzler.

few updates.blew everything apart for blasting.cleaned up the firewall and final welded the frame. one heck of a pile to blast.maybe get everything blasted and epoxied soon.

your project looks very cool. Cant you use glass setting tape around the back window and then screw it together with the diecast trim? Are you using the stock glass with the metal frames in the side windows?

i found the gasket im going to use for the rear its from chevs of the 40's.i am going to use the metal frames for the side windows.

Couple updates.boss got all the chassie parts blasted and most of it epoxied.did some seam sealing on the cab and next will be undercoating the bottom of the cab and raptor lining the inside of the cab.more to come.chizzler

Hey Chizz,? Your fuel tank, is that a standard tank or stainless???????? I see where I can get a stainless one for only $70 more then plain steel.

got the metal bed strips from mar-k today.used some 1x12 early 1900's barn wood i had to use on the bed floor.turned out pretty good i think.chizzler

Where did you get the barn wood from , I've been looking for some to do the bed also.
