Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"
Can't wait to see this beast on the street! Firing it up was the highlight of my last couple weeks. looking good with the mild drop & the steelies. You drain that tranny yet?

Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"
Love it! I wish the projects my teacher-wife stressed about right before school were like this one. Instead she's had me re-finishing furniture for 3 weeks.

I thought the 283/powerglide trans. fluid pan would be a breeze to drop, but NO and no drain plug. Come on GM! I have to unbolt the trans crossmember and shimmy it back to get to the rear pan bolts. "I got a eight foot bed that never has to be made" Boucher' Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"
My "lark" time, as my awesome wife puts it, has dwindled down to a weekend warrior status. Therefore the progress is little, but still have managed to:
- install 2" lowering blocks. The original U-bolts were a bearcat to get out! - rebuilt both of the rear drum brakes. Mighty intimidating, but not too bad once I dove in. - split the brake lines with a new dual MC. *hint- a long stick lighter is your best friend when trying to loosen those stubborn brake flare fittings. - installed all new rubber brake lines. - drained, what was left, of the 7+ yr. old tranny fluid. No drain plug!!! Installed one of those too. - and the highlight came Sat. morning.... Dog Dish Caps! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I...hDoggyDish.JPG I cannot wait to get this thing on the ground and fired up... Banana fingers crossed. Mosquito Smasher |

Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"
Last Thursday was a milestone..... It MOVED ON ITS OWN!
After throwing in the towel on the brake bleeding fiasco, I needed to get it on the ground for a moral victory. I had a good idea of what it would look like in my head, but was even more geeked to see it with my own eyes. Static drop is: 1 1/2 coil off front and TJ jeep springs with 2" lowering blocks Tires: 235/75R15 all around https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-p...allyMoving.JPG K5Addiction stopped by to join in my celebration. The nothing but smiles and high fives! It will be off to the "brakeman" and then to the exhaust shop. I order a pair of 30" Brockman Mellowtone glasspacks. I am really excited to hear them. Bark 'em if ya got 'em. Boucher' |
Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"
Smaller diameter exhaust pipe (2") will make the glass packs bark louder with the 283.

Not much here but a visit from Santa.
I introduce to you the Brockman Mellowtone twins! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f...o/brockman.JPG Guts https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-P...ockmanguts.JPG The truck will be leaving my house this Tuesday, on a flatbed. It will be headed to the shop to finish up the brakes and get the exhaust put on. After that, its game on! K5, if your wife is yelling at you, "there is an old truck in the street,, on fire!" It's just me christening the neighborhood. Single Tire Fire |

Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"
So the day has finally come!
The repair shop called and told me it was ready. I had a heck of a time getting the brakes to work, it turns out the pushrod was too short. The shop did a great job on the exhaust. True duals from the ram horns back. All 2" with a nice tuck-n-dump right at the rear bumper. And the Brockman Mellowtone glasspacks,,, hell yeah! Take a listen http://youtu.be/MPIpZqq9b1Y The only bad news is, no vid of a smoke one tire fire. |
Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"
my dream to have a factory auto,ac and trims truck..good luck .will be cool if you keep it original.

Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"
So me and "Cropwell" headed out west of town about 30 miles for a cruise-in. It did great, if you are like me, taking an old piece of Detroit Iron out a good distance from the house for the first time is a bit of a "puckered" ride! All senses on deck for the way out, then on the way home I am hammering it down and burnouts at each stop. Gotta break that horse in right!
I can honestly say that this project is winding down. I have gone back over the list of improvements and it is LONG! I wanted to get the bed finished up before I list it for sale. Here is what I did: I used a one-by PT frame for the bed to rest on. Then, painted 1x6 planks with a exterior grade black paint, and then fastened them to the PT lumber underneath with stainless fasteners. Looks sharp for very little money. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-6...edMakeover.JPG |

The MC is from a 70 or 72 Chevy Impala, it MUST be setup for drum/drum.
I did send it on down the road, it was an awesome truck and the new owner is driving the piss out of it! Win-Win Attachment 1178902 |

Just finished reading the whole thread. Love the patina..it turned out nice! Some simple improvements and detailing. What a difference it makes.:metal: Someone ended up with a real nice classic ride. My hope,... we see more of "Cropwell" from the current owner. Any chance of that do you think?

Well guys, here is Cropwell in AZ now forever! I just recently purchased her and followed her for about 2 years before I was able to get it. Working on more improvements here and there but she will be staying original with all the patina! Here are some current pictures she has already been in her first show last week and new name is Shorty Deluxe!! Planning on a Factory OEM instrument cluster change as well with the original tach as well and the seat being redone factory original with the OEM material! Will be getting the AC up an functioning as well too. Also just recently found a OEM mirror same correct color and patina as the truck. Small improvements will be done in the near future but she is going to retire with my wife and I here in AZ, and plan to get a small Airstream Bambi to go with shorty deluxe as well down the road. She is in the desert to stay! Here are some updated pictures. No more Alabama fields for this old 66! She spends allot of time in a garage now! But try to drive it as often as I can! And thanks again Shad for helping me out! She is fun as heck to drive!
