He came up with the same idea I had when I designed these 6 lug brackets. It will be a little while.

Hey I am interested in this set up, I am just wondering what exactly needs to be machined down? Just the hub on the axle? Or can we open up the hole on the rotor? Thanks!

Captainfab 05-12-2015 11:15 PM

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

Yes the hub on the axle flange is much bigger than the rotor's center hole. You can certainly have the rotors machined, but I prefer to have the axles machined. That way if you have to replace a rotor, you don't have to have the machining done again.

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

Hey Captain,

So I'm finally getting ready to put this kit on. However do you know how important it is for the axle register to fit tightly on the stock 15" steelies? I'm thinking that this centers the wheel to the axle but I'm not sure how important this is?

If I machine the axle register to 3.06 do the lug nuts center the wheel?

If I machine the rotor to the appropriate size then the wheel could still be centered.

Sorry if I'm thinking incorrectly

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

With factory wheels, the hubs and the lug nuts center the wheel. Most aftermarket wheels rely on the lug nuts alone to keep the wheel centered. I don't see a problem with machining the original hubs down to accommodate the rotors and using the lug nuts to center the wheels.

I'll take a set and just found you do brackets for the six lug disc brakes for the rear using 15" tires and would like a set also.

Do you want 2 sets of rear disc brackets, or just one?

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

Those look identical to the ones I put on my truck using this kit. I don't know that company, so it may be a cheap chinese knockoff. They may be great quality. The ones I ordered were actually not assembled properly, so I kept blowing out the seal in the right rear. It was missing a copper washer inside the caliper.

Those appear to be the correct calipers. You might contact them prior to purchasing and inquire about the country of origin and or warranties.

wanting a set of brackets powder coated. Has anyone actually finished the conversion? any input/response? I would prefer disc/disc valve so I dont have to worry about adjusting the pressure and having my rear tires stop sooner or slower than the front... does anyone have a disc/disc valve that was basically plug and play for our trucks?

Captainfab 09-01-2015 11:51 PM

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

I'll send you a PM with ordering info.

If you don't get a response here regarding the proportioning valve, you might try the for sale threads for the other 4 rear disc brackets that I make.

EDIT: I tried to send you a PM but your inbox is full.

In your first post you mention that 3rd gen F-body calipers will also work. Which ones are those? The 1985 -1992 ones like ACDELCO 18FR972 ?

Captainfab 01-17-2018 12:12 AM

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

The 1985-92 F-Bodies are the third Gen, and the 18FR972 is what comes up when searching for those rear calipers, but the picture is not correct. The picture looks like the '93-'97 F-body rear calipers. I will have to do some more searching and get back to you.

OK, in that case it is probably the caliper ACDELCO 18FR790 used from 1982-88.

Captainfab 01-18-2018 12:13 AM

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

Yes that is the correct caliper.

Would these work on a 1960? or could they be modified to work? I think I need to get rid of my rear drums...

Captainfab 03-21-2018 10:55 PM

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

None of my rear disc brackets are a direct bolt on to the Eaton HO32/33 differential. I imagine they could be made to work if you want to spend the time and money to do so. Personally if you want rear disc brakes I would replace the Eaton with a '64-'82 truck 12 bolt with a better gear ratio and then add your rear disc brakes.

I guess I don't understand how they attach, Is it just modifying the mounting or is the axle whats going to cause the issue?

Captainfab 03-22-2018 10:59 PM

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

All of my rear disc conversion brackets attach using the original backing plate flange. The Eaton HO32/33 has a different flange that the truck 12 bolt. Plus I do not know of the brake offset is the same. If they are not the same offset, the caliper will not line up with the rotor.

I picked up a 12 bolt out of a 70 Chevelle, would this kit fit? I am special ordering the axles and will have the flange cut down.

I'm not even going to pretend that I can answer your question..

however I was just reading this recently and it may be useful to you..

12 bolt truck rear end vs 12 bolt car

Captainfab 04-11-2018 11:57 PM

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

The car 12 bolt has a different backing plate flange shape size and hole pattern than the truck/Impala backing plate flange. I do happen to have a couple car 12 bolt base plates that I could substitute. So you are having axles made for a car 12 bolt with the 6 x 5.5" wheel stud pattern? I would think that a '70 Chevelle 12 bolt would bring a premium price.

Are you going to need a set of trailing arm mounts also?

Yes, I am having Moser make a pair of somewhat custom axles for it.

I am halfway thru removing the Chevelle mounts and will absolutely need a trailing arm mounts.

I picked it up a Super Chevy for $600, it's open with 2.73? gears. I think it's a good deal.

I'll have to take a look and see if I can ship the trailing arm mounts in the same box as the rear disc brackets. I will let you know.

No worries if not, last night a local guy told me he has a set. I can paypal you the $$, is the price the same with the substituted parts?

Captainfab 04-13-2018 10:54 PM

Re: 6 Lug Rear Disc with 15" Wheels and an E-Brake

The trailing arm mounts will fit in the medium box along with the rear disc brackets. I will send you a PM with ordering and payment info.

The base plates with a different hole pattern does not change the cost of the rear disc brackets.
