Re: Weird options
This build sheet is from a 50th 'Burb, ordered with 17.5" tires. The guy told me he did that so all his trucks around the farm would have the same size wheels.

How rare was the factory sliding back window?

This is my Weird Option
The Phantom Truck One that most people and even the places that sell parts for the LONGHORN truck. They say they came out in 1969. That was wrong if there is a will there is a way. Seen them as far back as 1967. But i have a 1968 Longhorn 396-400 AC power every thing No doors or locks or windows. But the normal Power |
Re: Weird options
Your loaded SWB K-10 is the rarity here rather than any of its individual options. You OR/WA guys sure have it kicked with drool-inducing 67-72s sitting in front of every other house. Seriously, congrats on a nice truck.

Longhorns came out in '68.

I guess the spotlights are a rare option. I had seen them on the SPID of emergency vehicles but can't recall seeing on anything else, and they are also an accessory offered through the dealerships. |

How about a prop shaft parking brake (J76) on a 1/2 ton?

They used different brackets than the regular Delco 10DN. Probably tough to find for a small or big block Chevy but easy for a GMC V-6! |
Re: Weird options
Yeah it uses special bracketry. One of my 67 327s had it so I have the right pulley as well. I have only seen a handful of these on light duty trucks and even seen one on a chevelle.

Re: Weird options
I had bought a original truck from the government back in the early 90's . It was a 1972 Chevy C-10 1/2 ton short step side box. The odd thing was it had a 350 V8 with a 4 speed standard transmission . Power steering and manual brakes. Wished I had not sold that truck.

Re: Weird options
I had a 6cyl '69 C/20 Stepside with gauges, AM, and Powerglide options. What was odd is it was ordered with Special Paint. It was a light gray and all 5 wheels were painted a deep red, yes from factory with chalk marks. What I find as most odd is you would think it would have been ordered as a company vehicle with the special paint, but never got lettering or logos. I would think a company that pays to have their trucks all match for recognition would also put their name on it. If it was a private special order it is odd to be that concerned about the color while not caring for much of any other options. We have a regional farm cooperative (Southern States) that uses those two same colors and I have wondered if they didn't order it and not claim it. It was also very low mile when I bought it about 10 years ago.

i've seen that ford wagon here in north carolina...it was at ray everhams car show and at charlotte auto fair...was asking 100 grand for it in the condition it was in in the video

Re: Weird options
Another truck I had came with "interesting" options and here is why. Two brothers who were into drag racing ordered identical trucks. When Chevy put a 396 in a pickup in '68 they ordered two red on red short bed CSTs with no power accys, 3spd, tach, posi. Mine had a 454 and M21 in it when I bought it.

Re: Weird options
some unusual RPO codes on this one.. last 4 on the right seem uncommon from my travels..
GSA insp label would indicate a factory G ride I suppose.. https://dl.dropbox.com/s/30kug02m9xy...0SPID.png?dl=0 |

4spd with tilt wheel is a "rare" one.

Re: Weird options
I have a '71 C20 with the "G86 Axle, No Spin Rear" option - sort of like positraction, but that was a different option altogether - This option was $125, which was not cheap!

Re: Weird options
Man I have to admit I can't figure you out. Is it really that obvious what I think you are or do you have some strange sense of humor that just makes you come off like one? You are assuming I want to change your opinion. There's no opinion to it anyway. The fact is what I described is odd and the other is I don't care what you think.

Re: Weird options
I can be the king of dry humor, but I watch it on the internet anymore. Easy to be mistook. I honestly wasn't sure one way or the other. I get the whole "so ridiculous you'd have to know it's humor" thing, but online with people you've never met ya just don't know*. All good and all that other cliche crap
* I'm sure I've been guilty -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had a truck for a while that was one of the nicest I've had with nice not weird options. What was weird was the option it didn't get. I thought it was a K/20 when I went to look at it. It was a '69 K/10 lwb CST Custom Camper that 517 Maroon Poly color with Red bucket seat interior, tach, A/C, 350, posi rear, tow hooks, rear gas tank, wood floor, tool & stowage, pinstripe, and 16.5" x 8.25" wheels (10.00 flotation tires on the SPID). It didn't have that first year tilt, even with all those options. You know why? It was a 3spd! No optional transmission.I always thought that was weird. |

Re: Weird options
Is column shift 3 speed manual 4wd an odd option. The reason I'm asking , two years ago a freind tried to put a set of hooker headers on a Blazer with that option and they would not fit on the drivers side. After two weeks of unresponsive calls to hooker tech line he said just sell me cast manifolds and he moved on. Now I have a set new headers still in the box for a 4wd, I found out hooker makes a different set for 2wd which is what I need for my 67 c10 instead.
|
Re: Weird options
3spd is the standard transmission in a 4wd, no option at all. Clutch linkage, no matter what the transmission, gets in the way of a lot of headers. That is a common problem and what you need to consider when choosing headers.

Can you tell us the other options this truck came ordered as? I am seeing a solid paint selection with white top. 3/4 C20 with 16.5's Front SS window trim Chrome front bumper Was the custom camper option present? Base side mirrors Interior options? Just trying to find a foundation for this assembled truck |
Re: Weird options
I believe it's a Custom, which is the mid-level trim, with Custom Camper badges. Ordering the badges had other required options to qualify the badges, such as HD suspension and tire options.
