Original 71 doors, that are practically flawless besides mirror holes and some veryminor dents.

if you don't mind me asking, where did you find the door mecca? I'm in the conroe area and am in need of two 71 model doors. TIA.

Do you know the paint code for the original color on that truck? I have a tailgate that I bought that is that color.

Started putting together a stainless exhaust system. Thinking of using magna flow mufflers. Have any suggestions on good mufflers to use?

Magnaflows can sound pretty nice. I've also been a fan of Borla and Corsa mufflers too. Little more subtle at idle/low RPM, but really open up when the engine breathes. Almost no wrong answer though when it comes to mufflers. I always use band clamps for them for a while until I'm happy with how they sound.

Sounds good, Im looking for a muffler that has a great sounding idle, but doesn't drone at highway speed. Is there a particular series of the magna-flow or bola that sounds the best?

I do not have the original paint code, but I was told the truck was "yellow 81348"

Re: 71 c10 restoration

I used the Borla Pro XS mufflers. Here is a clip (not my truck). You can tell they're a little more mellow, less hollow sounding, if that makes sense. To me they sound like a mix of american muscle and european power.

But picking mufflers is like choosing paint colors haha.

Pretty torn between colors, heading to paint soon. The interior of the truck will be black carpet, bench seat, door panels, headliners. Need some opinions

New tank came in from "Ricks tanks". Looks great and fit well. Sadly the fuel lines and connectors are on back order from summit. Should pair well with the holly snyper fuel rails.

The stock injectors from the 6.0 would not work with the ls3 intake. "Unfortunately" I had to upgrade to 42lbs injectors and holly fuel rails. :waah::metal:

Good news! my headers came in from "Headmen Headers" they look great and fit well. Decided to go with the shorties to increase the bottom-end power compared to top-end power with long tubes. Cant wait to hear this baby purr

In other news, Dropped the cab off at a local hot rod shop (Dooley and sons) to have the remaining metal work to be completed. They are hanging the doors, and mounting the rockers. Finally decided on a color for the truck. Was really torn between the teal and the hugger orange. Finally concluded that the teal was more "50's" and the orange was more "70's muscle". Looking forward to seeing some paint on my baby.

Looking good man. And that's a shame you had to upgrade those injectors lol.

Love your color choice. I am having the same battle right now on colors, to go orange/white or black/white. I love my existing black and silver wheels on my K10 and want the color to match. Figure at the end of the day both are great looks. Keep up the good work!

Pulled apart the old bed sides. Need to sandblast and determine if they are usable or if a repop bed is better.

I would try to use them unless they are completely rotten. I did a SWB conversion on mine and had to use repop. I bent one literally in half at the wheel well pushing it out to close the tailgate and I wasn't pushing very hard. The repops are super thin, they ting when you flick them.

I for sure will need to replace the tailgate, do you know if the repop tailgates work well with original bed sides? Split between trying to find a quality OEM tailgate or ordering a repop.

cebra 11-21-2019 03:51 PM

Re: College restoration. My 71 c10

They fit ok but are thinner than OEM as well. Post 163 on this thread shows the major alignment issue that can't really be resolved on the repop tailgates but it isn't that bad really.

Visited the cab at the painters. Rockers have been installed and the doors hung. The dough work is complete inside the cab, around the door jams and the fire wall. Paint should be shot soon!

Went to Lone star throw down this weekend with my father and saw a lot of amazing trucks. Was a great inspiration for me to get in the barn and keep working. I was able to finish the little body work needed on the fenders, and started work on the hood. Dad had been working tirelessly to finish the exhaust. Made a modification to the plan and we are going to incorporate the X-pipe like originally planned. Attachment 1985377

Yes, the gate lowers. Dad made that with the old tailgate from his c10. The cab is coming along slowly. I understand now why they call it paint jail now.
