Weren’t those Jeeps built by Rambler ? :haha:

From a former owner of a 1976 FJ-40 (350”<>350hp) a direct rival of Jeep owners for that era :sumo:

You are correct. American Motors bought Kaiser/Willys in 1971 and built Jeeps until Chrysler bought AMC in 1987. You are correct, I used to wheel with a lot of FJ owners back in the day. Funny thing is they had to put a Chevy engine in them to make them half decent . . . .

Correction: they came with Toyota’s version of a Chevrolet engine (it was a 235” six cylinder knock off; Toyo's = 258")which lead to the death of FJ-40 imports into the USA market in 78~79’.

To meet the EPA standards Toyota moved the engine temp up to a level where it destroyed the OEM engine. The thermostat was set at 235deg. The newer engines had aluminum intake manifold mated to the exhaust manifold (typical Chev six configuration). At 13,000 mi my intake manifold virtually melted through the mated chamber.

I R&R the six with a four bolt out of a 1973 Blazer, from then on it was screamer. (back-in-the-day) Off the line I fried allot of Camaro’s & Super Chickens

Not trying to troll here, but Jeep guys ask for it. I parked next to a Jeep in my Jimmy today that had one of those silly "It's a Jeep thing...You wouldn't understand" banners on the windshield. I'm sorry, but I get tired of the Jeepatude. I had a thought to get my own banner made for the Jimmy that reads "You're right...I don't understand...at all". If I was into pasting crap on my stuff I'd do it,but I have more class than that...justa passing thought. But,seriously, the best Jeeps have everything swapped-in off a Chevy...or GMC...or Ford...or Dodge

I agree Special K, I have had a 56 Willy's an 81 CJ8 (scrambler) and an 81CJ7 with a 360 and 13" lift all over built, but still went back to a Chevy, just can't help it.

Scout/IH guys (I am formerly one) have a phrase about the Heep community, though I'm sure some thin-skin would be offended were I to post it here.

Scout’s rule : :metal:

Back-in-the-day we spent allot of hours bouncing along power line roads up in the Oregon Cascade MT’s in my buddy’s 1964 2wd Scout.

Interesting fact: International was the first to build the modern day version of the SUV, factory tricked out Scouts came out long before Blazer’s & Bronco’s ever thought of it.

It was a sad day when International stopped building their smaller vehicle line :flag:

Ouch! Still won't give up my CJ5 and will keep it all AMC/dana, weaknesses and all. (Won't give up my Chevy's as well. Just ask the wife!) Hope you had a great holiday weekend.

Yeh,I wasn't meaning to come down hard on Jeeps. I like them. It's some people, and what's up with window banners that invite a reaction, anyway? It just screams attitude and I'm always ready to had such a person their hat . Not to stray too far,but it's like those Calvin sticker. My reaction when I see him pissing on a bowtie is ,"Well, piss in you a-hole". I just think the world needs less attitude...or at least keep it to yourself, like I do (till I see that chit). I'm not into pasting my mind on my vehicles. I'm into Willys and wish I had one or ten. The late Willys was a 'Jeep'

I once owned a 1952 M38 Willy’s, it had been a 24vdc radio jeep

I wished I still had it. Bought it from the Civil Air Patrol in 1981 it was an #10. Sold it to my cousin & he still has it. It was a bad-ass rig with water proof ignition, I used to swim it across rivers never knowing where it would land.

I have to say that out of my 3 jeeps I just liked them, not the Jeep thing, there are Chevy guy's with the Holy attitude, which is fine, takes all kinds with all kinds of rides, they can all be fun, stock, built, just nice to have something in out motor sport.

I have an attitude. I like what I like and if you like something else, that's cool

If I could have one of everything I would. I like a lot,but choose GM trucks as my one and only, since I can only have a few.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

Pretty much anything can be cool if you have the skills, Jeeps included...but not many things actually turn out cool when looking at all builds, just alright.

I have had over 120 cars and trucks, some were really ugly but not for long, do have to say about 70% were some kind of Chevy/Gm product, they are so easy to make parts fit and also sell easy.

WE had one growing up as a kid too. Had a pto winch also. We ended up with two spares because the electrical and associated parts (sealed wiring etc) were so expensive. Great rig, even with the stock super torque 4cylinder it would climb places the guys that had converted to v6 or 8 could not go because they would break traction.
