X2 TJ Toms article was why I went with the Clifford instead of the Offy, but I did buy Toms cast iron headers and running his HEI ..Vernski:lol:

i have the offy intake ont the truck now but i do not have the headers or the water heat installed yet. the offenhauser intake i got was brand new never installed still had the tag and wrapping on it, the guy bought it from jc whitney 10 or 12 years ago. he sold the intake and 6 qjets to me for 100 bucks. thats a hard one to pass up.

Seems to be a noticeable difference quicker starts and a we bit more power over the points. You might find one cheaper off a V6 in a wreaking yard the V6 they had in cars and S10 pickup in the 80's. Same firing order and everything so GM stuff is handy..Vernski:lol:

V6 ones are not a drop in. Tom modifies the shaft with a new coller to allow it to sit correct in an inline 6. Don't buy a junk yard one expecting it to drop in.

As for Tom's HEI, made a big difference in mine. Runs so much smoother, little more power and starts easier.

I put the pertronix ignitor in mine with the 40,000 volt coil. Pertronix used to make a 6 cylinder hei and now all they make is the points to hei conversion and it perrty cool. You take a stock distributor and pull the points and the pertronix bolts on the original plate. I plan on buying a Davis Unified Ignition Hei. Much more expensive but puts a hot 50,000 volts out! And is advanced the same as the original Gm HEI. My buck.:lol: T.J.

HEI, plugs and Weber 32/36 from Tom are on my 65 with 250 I6, factory style exhaust with Thrush Muffler. Awesome. Best money I've spent. Most recent fuel mileage was rural highway, 19.4 MPG. Will be talking with Tom about a T5 swap as soon as the shop opens back up from vacation.

To say that you have to have the manifold heated is like saying a tunnel ram or an air gap manifold won't work ... my triple setup on my 261 has no heat and I am sure that if I dont run it in the winter i will be fine .. If you drive yours all year in a cold climate , then I would for sure heat the manifold...

I have the DUI stuff in my stock HEI and I have never had any problems. And My dist. has seen 8000 rpms more then once ;)

What Mike said! And if I remember correctly those are triple 450 cfm holleys and it looks like a Kay Sissel head design??? If that is a stock type lump port head that will amaze me! What size plug wires should I run for an hei? I am running Napa premium 7 mm hei wires, but am thinking they may be to small. Would a thicker 8.5 mm wire be better and what company makes good high energy wires? Thanks. T.J. :chevy:

Well the dist. has the DUI stuff 50,000 coil and mod. If I remember right 8m. wires and it has been set-up using a dist. machine to handle the 8000.That intake was first on my old 250 built up with a crane cam 38-7200 power band beefier springs then what crane called for. Pistons started life as a 12.5-1 for a 307.They were fly cut .225 to clear the 583/607 lift cam which turned the pop-up in too a 3staged piston dome. Stock rods with ARP studs,
bottom end is other wise stock. Stock oil pump. The head on the main build was a 194 which put the more between 13.9-1 an 15-1. The head gasket would only hold up to about 3, 1/4mi passes before blowing it. So to be able to run a 3day weekend event I swap to a larger head to bring the compression down to around 11-12-1. And yes this is just a stock cast iron head. And at that time had no lump ports.
This new motor is now at 13-1 with a New cam which is just under 700 lift. which also had (key word being had) my first style bolt-in , which has now been replaced with My newer
G2 lump kit. The same tunnel ram will be used till I finish my newer Alum 3x4 one with other improvements to it.

On that older motor which was just over 17yrs old. When I was testing different intakes
Offey 4b, Clifford 4b, and dual 4b. My 3x4 out ran and performed the best. and the ETs showed that.
And yes they are holley 450s Pretty much stock out of the Box. And I am now also working on a billet air cleaner for it. Or at least a better looking one kinda maybe old school but none the less it will still be of billet.

Thanks for the info Larry. For the intake and headers what is a good gasket to use? Is the one Clifford gave me sufficient? I have an exhaust leak and no doubt a small intake leak and its because I am using a stock type gasket( The metal style).

I run the felpro 1025 head gasket and the MrGasket gasket and I have not had any problems and I have ran the Mrgasket for 20 some yrs. I heard the felPro gasket is vary good as well.

Here's a video of my 64 292 running after 13 years. Sorry about my fingers getting in the way. I was afraid to rev it up to high cause I didn't want to blow the bent pushrod.
