OK here are some updates.
After I finished laying out, vinyl wrapping, and splicing on connectors for the Painless Wiring first thing I needed to do was fix my Neutral Safety Switch issue.

I have a Van tilt and the hole for the NSS is too high up on the column and was hitting the brake assembly. I needed to cut a hole for it to sit in lower on the column closer to the firewall.

I marked where it needed to be while the column was still in the truck, then commenced to cutting.

The NSS for the trucks is different than the Van, the Van NSS has a longer nub that fits down into the groove, because I already had the one for the truck I just welded some tabs on so the shorter truck would catch and work correctly. I also, drilled holes and tapped.

Next up was the master cylinder and brake booster

I dissembled everything so I could get it down to bare metal.

I dropped all the brackets into my electrolysis tub. I have gotten so much use out of this and it is my GO-TO rust removal choice... especially for odd shaped parts that are a pain to strip with a drill and pad.

I bought a new MC from Jegs and I have an original prop valve. Working on the brakes coming soon. I just wanted to get the harness in and as much of the engine bay done as I could and start the ol truck... so I'll come back to brakes soon.

I got all the carpet, kick panels and the seat in, pay no attention the steering wheel it's a work in progress from a few pages back, that I'm not done with and not sure I'm going to use. Before I laid the carpet and put the seat in I put down a layer of mass loaded vinyl.. no pics, but under it all is hushmat, mass vinyl, jute, then the carpet... should be nice and quite.
seat cover, carpet, headliner.. everything is from Truckseats. Tim is a great guy to work with and has great products. There's new foam on that seat too. I did that a while back... pictures further back in thread. door seals are GMCpauls, they are awesome.

ok ther rest of these pics are just random engine bay pics showing different things I've done, restored, put back together.. to get to a point to where I could start the truck. I know in the pics are things that need buttoned up and will be doing, I just wanted to start it!

Thanks, still need to get it all tidied up and correctly timed... Not to mention some mufflage!

It's the same alternator that was on it when I tore it all down.. Internal regulator, it's wired just like this pic, Originally these trucks had were externally regulated. I'm not sure what's different between the stock harness and the Painless Harness, but they mention in the paperwork that in some instances the truck will not shut off and that diode is needed on the 914 White wire. Truck wouldn't shut off so I just followed the directions. :-)

Here's what it said in the instructions:

NOTE: Under some circumstances, the connection to the Alternator will not allow the Engine to shut off If this occurs, a diode will have to be installed inline on wire # 914. This will prevent alternator feedback into the ignition system & allow the Engine to shut down, The RADIO SHACK part number for this Diode is 276-1661 It is to be installed with the striped end towards the alternator.

Trucks on hold, been saving for vacation so the TruckBucks have been depleted.
However, I have the brake lines all ran, bled, and working good now. Next up after we get back from vacation and I save a few truck bucks, is a battery, sway bars, bed wood and trim, run the gas line to the rear tank, block it all out and paint. That's all gonna take me all winter and part of spring to save money for and actually do the work. :-) Taking longer than i want, but I don't want to build my truck on credit.

But seriously, I'm glad you're still at it. It doesn't sound like you're that far away(other than that part about blocking it out:lol:) It's going to be a KILLER ride when you get it finished. Can't wait to see it! Keep us posted
