I learned something about axle tubes. I never realized that they move with welding.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Yeah Dale...heat distortion from welding will really make the metal change shapes...

I'm still making baby steps...work keeps getting in my way though...
Finally decided to quit trying to make some fancy looking coil mount brackets and just make something that would work....where they are and with everything assembled they'll be hard to see anyway...if they are a eyesore I'll make some covers for them...
Heres the brackets I made...they bolt to the back of the heads
And a pic of them mounted..

Side job on my hydroboost install was I needed a extra return port into the tank for it...I've seen where some just tee the lines together but have also heard some say it cavitates sometimes...
So I machined a nipple for the return...
Cleaned up a spot on the tank and welded it on..
Then i stuck some magnets in the tank around where the hole would be and drilled on into the tank...I think it'll work

Also getting close to finalizing the brackets for the hydraulic clutch master...its still in r&d mode...turns out a 1:1 ratio was gonna work ok on the bellcrank..
I'll clean up and shape the brackets some..I had to order a banjo fitting to go on the reservoir end ..a 90deg -3an hose stuck up a little to high and was to close to the floorboard..

Spent what little time I had today working on the plug wires...
I must say this just reaffirms the fact that I HATE wiring...It took most of the afternoon just to do one side.
I'm using Taylors build your own wiring kit...the kit I have has the 10mm wires..
As I expected nothing goes as planned..their crimp tool sucks...it won't crimp the terminal properly...channel locks works better than the tool...the coil boots will test your patience...they dont slide easily on the wire jacket....even with the dielectric grease, wd40,hot water and youtube.....its a good thing I had extra boots..I had to cut 2 boots off the wire and redo just on the drivers side...they would stick to the wire just like they were glued on..and always in the wrong spot...but I got this side done..
I started on the pass side but needed to dimple the header tube on the front 2 cyl..the plug boots were just to close for comfort....and of course half way thru that I ran out of O2 for the torch...
Oh well..I needed to cool down after doing the drivers side anyway...
Drivers side done ...and the sucky little crimper...

Hey Greg, did you try any Windex to move those boots around?

Well I got the pass side done...for some reason it went a little easier than the 1st 4 did....
I'm gonna straighten the wiring up but 1st I've got to get some more wire separator clamps...thatll make it look some better...

I did some measuring and found what I think could have been some of the issues I was having...there is about .050 difference in the od of the wires...that makes it harder in the stripper/clamp and getting it in the plug boot...not to mention with a od range of .420-.470 and trying to get it in a .200 hole in the boot..
Like trying to cram 10lbs of crap in a 2lb sack...
They sell the same boot for 10mm and 8mm wires...if I'd gone with 8mm it probably would have went much smoother...I did try the windex..it helped in the stripper part but not on the boot install...
