1 baby step forward installing the ID tag back on the door jamb and a huge step backward had to mover the engine, transmission and T-case forward 1" so the right side coil pack would clear the fire wall. This caused conflict with exhaust on the right side the transmission mount and the rear driveshaft support. the good thing is the front drive shaft slip yoke still has plenty of movement. I will have to build another trans mount adapter because I don't want to move the hole mount and drill more holes in the frame. Radiator hoses can be cut down. The right side header is now conflicting with the shackle and bolt so I will have some mods to the header as well.

What rivets did you use to put the ID plate on??
Bummer on the motor issue. Can you relocate the coil packs and not touch the motor? |

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I did not get much done with the wind yesterday. I opened the garage and seams like half of the street leaves blew in my garage. Found the break and clutch peddle assembly, Parking break assembly, gas peddle and starter motor but for the life of me I cant find the nuts and bolts for everything.

I found some more bolts and was able to install the clutch, break peddle assembly and the parking break, door locks and shifters Saturday. I will have to move the 2 right side shifters back about an 1" the one is hitting the transmission when in High. Did some work on the hydro boost breaks as well Saturday

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Looking Good.

Sunday I worked on the break peddle linkage and got it hooked up the the hydro boost. Installed the steering column and steering shaft had to go the parts store and they had the correct rag joint the one that came with the kit from LMC was way to small. worked on installing the steering wheel still have some work to do but at least I can move the front wheels with out jacking up the front end makes it easier to get in and out of the garage. I did not like the cheesy wood that it came with so I will make my own with a nice piece of walnut I picked up a few months ago.

What’s wrong with your current motor? Remember they are ground activated through the switch making ground by being in contact with the dash. |

There is several options you have here is one of them. https://newportwipers.com/product/19...k/#wiper-motor , |

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Did not get much done today burnt out from work the last couple days pulling double shifts. managed to drill the holes for mounting the Vintage Air under dash parts. just need some help mounting it. ordered new wiper motor from New Port Wipers with intermittent switch.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I don't have any experience with the new port wiper motors.
They just look like they will work. I see you bought one of those new ports. The other option -------. There is a member on here twouvakind that builds delay wiper system sometimes. His last response was 9/12/18 on his product thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...wipers&page=13 I will have to drill for my air system also I picked Old Air. I would like to see pictures of your installation if you have time to take them and post. I know about the over time stuff. I will also buy the new port wiper motor. Please post details of your installation. . |

After searching part number on line I was able to install some rubber bumpers for the driver door, tail gate, and windshield washer hose. finish drilling the hole for the Vintage Air and finish up modifying my existing controls for the AC. installed the LED side marker lights but they seam to stick out further than what I remember.

I ordered a gallon of Por-15 from Amazon and it was delivered to my house yesterday when I came home from work i picked it up and could smell paint fumes brought it in the house set down on some plastic and noticed my hand ha paint on them went back to check my entry way and paint leaked there too. rapped the package in plastic and set it in garbage can in the garage. contacted Amazon and asked for refund and then sent the seller a bad review with pictures. now I have a gallon of hazardous paint to deal with. this week end I will try to pore it into another can see if I can save whats left.
My plan was to paint some areas inside the cab that still have bare metal up under the dash, parts of the doors and under side of roof. |
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I forgot to take pic's. I did get the holes drilled for the hydraulic clutch and installed the tail light last week end. painted the doors with por-15 just the bare metal areas. Ordered some wiring and fuse box. Have to modify the clutch push rod so its adjustable it was about an 1" short.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
The brown truck dropped off some parts I ordered last weekend. head light, tail lightwiring and new Painless fuse box. got some work to do this week end.

I got some work done this weekend modified the transmission adapter by moving the hole center 1/2" each way so the bolts align from moving the engine forward 1". w
Went to my friend house Friday and he helped cut down a part so my front and rear T-case sticks fit better. Installed the new wiper motor and it fit good. the Vintage Air was difficult to get bolted up the the firewall ad to remove the rear bracket and the wiring on top to fit it in. Only lost 1 grommet pushing the tubing through the fire wall. Got the driver door rubber installed holds the door out about an inch. and got the door lock linkage inside the door working. |
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Well it rained most of my time off work and I got sick Friday so no work on the truck during the Holidays. No room in the garage to move around to work in side. I did receive my wiper motor shaft seal from GMC Paul. The smaller one that fits tight to the main shaft. If the rain stops I should be able to finish up work under cowl.

I have not done much after thanksgiving got sick for the 3 days after and the weekends have been raining + working late shift at work kills my truck time until March. I can only work on my truck in the driveway no room in the garage. I did get the grill installed Sunday. I will have to rework the aftermarket grill insert so my fingers will fit to open the hood.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Nice. Who did you get the insert from?
Are you going to be able to store it inside the garage when complete since it’s so long?? |
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Got the inserts from LMC truck. it fits in the garage now. when its done it will be to high to fit.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Okay I went off the deep end and bought a Magnuson supercharger TVS2300 for my truck. LSX Concepts make kits to fit the supercharger with Vintage Air kit. The other part I had to buy is cylinder head adapter for Cathedral port to square port to make it work on my truck because I put about $1500 worth of work in the cathedral port heads I have. I should have the supercharger and head adapter next week. the pulleys and brackets I will order after I send some pictures of my engine to LSX Concepts to see if I have to change the AC pump brackets or not.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I might have problem with the crank pulley fitting the front cross member is real tight.
|
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
So I had to buy the complete bracket and pulley kit to make it work. The pulleys move all the accessories back about 1.5" and the supercharger pulley end up about where my stock truck pulley is now. witch helps with how tight my crank pulley is to the front cross member. Also I ordered there fuel rails do to conflict with the cooling lines.
|
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I thought that may be the case. Hopefully someone else needs the brackets you already have. You are making me question if I am going to have clearance problems at the front of my motor due to the wide gilmer belt setup I am using. Will know in a couple of months. Cool truck build.
