I just now downloaded some pics from my old camera (had this thing since 2004) to the site. That is all I have "done to my truck today."

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
routed wires to their respective places today.
those of you guys that have installed the vintage air systems, how painful is the wiring from an American Autowire to the vintage air harness? also, to a retrosound harness? ran out of time and had to get my girls. on shift tomorrow. ill mess with those two goodies thursday |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Today I bought all new tune up parts: points, condenser, rotor, distributor cap, spark plugs....I got new spark plug wires too but I don't like their grey color. I'll return those.
Spark plug wire color has a huge performance, reliability, and safety impact. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Lots of fun today:
Installed new freeze plugs, bolted the intake onto the engine, changed the thermostat, and mounted the flywheel to the crank. Oh, yes, and the new throw out bearing. Edit: Ouch! I run gray cables, and have never thought of the performance, reliability and safety benefits that I will now miss for this very reason! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Finalized paint on the calipers and braces for my new rear disc brake install on Saturday. Busy weekend!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
cleaned up the wires under the dash and wired the engine compartment. screwed around and put the gauge bezel in to see how it looked.

shop guy said my gas tank was no good. i filled it up with water to see how bad it was. found this guy.
can this be fixed? |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Good Lord . it looks like a bullet hole . Being a Texas tank it should be easy weld up . some will suggest pouring in some coating for the inside .
In Canada the whole tank would be rotten by now |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
i'm all ears....
"pouring in some 'coating'" tell me more!! i have some POR 15 left over whatcha think??? |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
"bullet hole" hahahaha
where i grew up that is a total possibility |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Since all the gasoline is surely out of it, you could simply have the hole welded shut, if the metal around it is still good.

Find a good Welder, the right one will weld that hole easily and for under $50 if he's honest . Often those little muffler shops are the place to go for things like this . Anyone who hesitates, isn't qualified to do the job . |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Easy fix, tank looks really solid besides, does make you wonder on the shop guy though, what else has he given up on.
Mudman. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
thank you both for the replies. that makes me feel better. i did not want to buy a new tank. i work with a guy that's as good a welder as you guys are. probably cost me a half gallon of ice cream.....:metal:
yes, the tank is in very good shape other than that one spot. that's why i filled it up yesterday to check because i thought the shop was full of it too thank you all for the wealth of knowledge from bumper to bumper!!!! |
