As purchased and as she currently sits, sort of. Since that last photo was taken I have repaired the outer door handles, given it a once over with clr (more work to do there), and 95% finished everything in the rear. Parking brake is functional and it moves under its own power once again.
Putting together a parts list for the front now. Going to do a power steering and power disc brake conversion up there. The bed is currently in pieces. Well, I guess only a few good pieces. I kept the bed sides, steps, and spare fenders. The bed front and rear sill were rusted too badly. Some PO had trimmed all the cross sills and installed a tongue and groove wood bed.
It's been fun to this point and has kept me from running the streets at night and on the weekends.
You guys make me jealous.

mygmc,
I LOVE your truck! GMC 4x4 and step side to boot. Makes me miss my dad's old 71 short fleet GMC 4x4.

I really want to hear more about your tail light choice. That is probably the most tastefully done, non stock version I have seen in a long time.

Thanks for your high praise.
To start with , I knew once I wasn’t going to restore it to oem standards , I knew I had a free hand in what I did do. Personally I dislike the tail lights that came on these trucks and I knew I wanted something different . I didn’t want to cut the new box stake pockets for a light , I wanted surface mount lights . Hard to find the right light , I spent hrs searching the net for tail lights and finaly came across these . They are supplied by Partsmart . They say they make them ( not sure ) but they look exactly like what I was looking for.
I have Amazon prime too , so I would order different lights until I actually found they were going to fit my desire. No shipping costs either way . Shipping gets expensive when your not a volume shipper .

My seats are out of a Ford Bronco ( high back buckets ) some one put them out for trash pick up , I looked at them , nothing wrong other than some miner vinyl blemishes . They are Eddy Bauer addition electric seats to boot !

I will update pic’s as I move along .

I'm doing a 2/4 drop with spindles and rear springs, 5 lug conversion, ps conversion, front disc brakes with hydroboost, sway bars, and different wheels and tires. Original plan was to do a full custom high-end build on a Roadster Shop spec chassis with LS motor, etc. But it's a nice, clean original short bed, so now I'm thinking of sticking with the stock chassis. But I have four other cars and two motorcycles I'm working on, so the plan at the moment for this one is to just get the upgrades done and drive it.

ltdmstr,
I just gotta see more pictures of that truck. I don't want to take away from any of the other great trucks in this thread but that clean, untouched look to your truck has my full interest.

Great Looking truck and a great plan! Same path I have chosen with my short step. Two things I recommend: More than 2/4 drop. 3 1/2” front 5 rear or even 4/6 is sweet without sacrificing driveability. And 17 or 18 inch wheels. No regrets you will have.
