I'd read where that source was hit & miss on things. Ultimately, we went back/forth on 'interpretation' of the communications. What seemed so obvious in his mind did not translate over to what was written in his answers as there were key details left out. Lesson learned. They'll only be a final-option source in the future. |

Well it's winter, I thought I'd do a little cleanup and exhaust manifold change-out.

Yup, definitely winter! Very tidy looking brackets on your engine.

Re: New 64 Stepper Project
I expect that my engine will run a bit warmer after I conduct the carb re-work as I am changing the jets and the metering rods. When I pulled the plugs they all showed a very rich condition. After searching the internet I find the Street Demon comes in a very rich set-up from the factory for some reason. I think I have it nailed though. :)

Re: New 64 Stepper Project
Did those reduced head bolts come with the manifolds or did you get ARP bolts?…
Those look great on that engine…… |

Thank you. Just FYI the bolts Speedway sent were too long for the four end port bolts. I ordered everything from Alan's Fasteners: ARP 3/8-16 HEX FLANGE BOLT STAINLESS STEEL Product ID: 0520 Description: ARP 3/8-16 HEX FLANGE BOLTS STAINLESS STEEL,3/8 WRENCHING,.625 FLANGE or ARP 3/8-16 HEX STAINLESS STEEL FLANGE BOLT 7/16 WRENCHING Product ID: 0520A Description: ARP 3/8-16 HEX STAINLESS STEEL FLANGE BOLTS,7/16 WRENCHING,.698 FLANGE https://www.allensfasteners.com/sear...ze=80&sortBy=3 And ARP STAINLESS STEEL WASHER WITH CHAMFER Product ID: 22247An https://www.allensfasteners.com/sear...1&txtCatName=2 |

I just got the engine stabbed in today and started torquing the trans to engine bolts. What a pain in the keester that is. I took a break, think I'll continue tomorrow. ;) |

Well I'm still at it, haven't given up yet. :)

Re: New 64 Stepper Project
Man, that would make me nervous to remove and reinstall that engine with all the new paint around it. Good idea with the towels and pads

Also just FYI I purchased an articulating engine lift device from Mac's years ago. The first time I installed the engine I had removed the front end, easy. This time I thought it would work as is. Kind of tricky had to remove it over the side fender area. I'm sure a simple engine lift plate would have been better in this instance. I just didn't have one. ;) And I'm not removing the hood! |
Re: New 64 Stepper Project
Your truck is just outstanding! and now you made improvements. Sure hope to get to see this one in person someday.
