also hooked my overflow tank, been puking antifreeze for 20 some years, but didn't worry since I just finally got the engine runninghttps://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...90ff69fa_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2j8oVsJ]20200603_072930

then I did the brakes for the second time, bought rebuilt from NAPA, surprised at the quality and price, new banjo bolts and copper crush washers, and pins for the pads, no more leaking at the bleeder screw

I have a new grommet for mine - my old one is a little dried out at cracked. But I’m scared to wreck my paint. Was it tough to replace?

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

Not really, just used two dull screw drivers, and only pushed on the rubber. one screw driver used to keep grommet in place and the other to feed the grommet around, start at the notch at the bottom

I did remove the 4 mounting screws for the filler neck

The best ones come from Wes at classic , I think they may have a lifetime replacement

Getting the windshield gutter ready to seam seal it. Got all the nearly 50 year old sealer and silicon removed and sanded it down to bare metal. It's ready for primer and new seam sealer. nicest gutter I have ever seen!

Today I:
-Adjusted my fast idle screw
-Adjusted my prop valve (rears were locking up under hard braking)
-Bent my gas pedal slightly (I wasnt able to get to WOT)
-Changed my oil (100 miles on new engine)
-Figured out why my right front blinker wasnt working (wire connection at core support came undone)
-Adjusted my tire pressure (30 front 26 rear)
-Installed a trans temp gauge
-Chasing a small power steering leak in my hydraboost system :waah:

No, I just cleaned them up with 409. The rear seat is original too.

Every day I worked on this truck, I realized how lucky I was as it was so well maintained by the original owner.

I still have the original bill of sale with all documentation and the protecto plate. The guy traded in a '69 Dodge Charger and $20.00 down. LOL!

Unfortunately, he passed a few years back and I was able to purchase from his Daughter.

Today I pulled out the automatic column and started the rebuild on it. Clean, sand, prep and paint to back into the 72 Blazer.

I'm changing over to an automatic but doing it one step at a time. Column first. Transmission lines on the ready and then the swap to the TH350/NP205. After that the pedal assembly.

Trying no to leave it crippled as it is a blast to drive.

If somebody is ever considering painting the firewall black on their trucks...don't do it. Spent the past few days lightly wet sanding off the black rubberized paint off the upper firewall of my 71 4x4 Blazer project.

I was able to get back to the original firewall crayon markings for 518 - which is the stock 71 Medium Green paint code - so I thought that was a win for the time invested. It was on both the driver and passenger side of the upper firewall.

A few before, during and after shots...

I took the original springs in for re-arching and asked for 2-2.5" I think it's a bit more than that though.

Also, I just put 2" blocks in the rear.

The tires are 33"x12.5"x15". They are the new BFG KO3's on 15" x 8" rallys. I picked up a set of 15" x 8" steel wheels and have sandblasted and painted them white. Now, I'm not sure if I want to swap them out or not.

I'm afraid it's going to squat down a bit when I put the top back on.

I think I'll put in a couple of overload air bags so I can bring it up a bit if I have too.

Thanks for the kind comments!

Pat

Installed a phenolic spacer under my carb to solve a heat soak hard start issue I ran into. also playing around with the AFR gauge and carb settings to dial it in :metal:

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

Thanks Pat. Exactly the look I am going for. The truck I bought has 35" Mud Terrains with what I believe to be a 4" lift. Too tall for my taste. Appreciate the info.

Ptjsk 07-07-2020 06:53 PM

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

Yea, it was a tough decision, but I agree with you. Although I think they still look good, the 35's with a 4" were just a bit too much for my preference.

Adding some air assist lifting bags to the rear soon. They're supposed to arrive today.

I want to be able to tow a small trailer with no sagging.

I am using the original spare tire carrier with a 33x12.5R15 BFG KO2. So far I replaced the carriage bolt with longer than stock but needs a little more modification to make it fit right. The carrier needs to about 6 inches taller. A metal box (open on the bottom) that fits over the carrier to serve as an extension will probably work.

I'm having TOO much fun driving my 71 this summer to do anything to it.
I took it to work all this week.

Shot this pic leaving one day.

Thanks, Pat
