1) Wait to hear back from my local smog Ref to dial down exactly what my options are.
2) Hopefully find a compliant 2wd 6.0 or 6.2 with a six-speed automatic combo that fits in my GVWR window (8.5k - 10k) that I can start searching for a relatively low mileage one to purchase out of wrecking yard (how hard could that be???)
3) Get the OP Steve Van Gent, who is "only" three short hours north of me to come down for the weekends to help sort out the wiring BS.

EricU, when you talk with the smog ref can you clarify with them if the e-rod motors are acceptable for class 1 GVWR trucks? My understanding is that this is okay.

No, it goes by GVWR.

Look at your door tag, my "guess" is that your in the 2a group (6k - 8.5k) which are pretty easy to find.

As mentioned before, you need to have ALL emissions related components in working order.

The E-rods are only for vehicles with a GVWR <5,725 lbs - so check your tag.

If it does meet the criteria, they are a great solution in CA. You still have some other items that you need to address but it is much simpler.

They're not a truck per the registration.
Hoping the 83 and prior no smog passes.
The op was a jimmy and they used a tahoe for a donor.
Why I should re read the thread

Truck, Van or Suburban, it doesn't matter.

Your donor vehicle just needs to be in the same GVWR catagory.

What is the GVWR of your Blazer? That is step one.

steve, thank you for the info & right up.... I am looking to do a very similar situation here in AZ. I am wondering how you went about finding the CA guidlines for emissions pass requirements related to the swap? I know to call the "local" DEQ office, but looking for "terms or phrases" that you might pass along to help speak their jargon :uhmk:... to explain what what was done...:metal:

thanks!

In CA we have a website to start with AskTheRef.com

The CA BAR engine swap guidelines are listed here.

Think about how modern vehicles control the transmission and what gear you are in. A th350 cruising down the highway in 1:1 is going to rev higher than the overdrive computer controlled vehicle that is always attempting to keep you in the highest gear possible, and lowest rpm to not only keep fuel consumption down, but to also lower emmisions by keeping the engine in a certain rpm band for the given speed. Keith S. can probably give us an idea of how much time in development is spent on meeting emmsions targets, or how much it plays into what rolls off the end of the assembly line.
