Bent some free sheet metal from the local recycler to build the fan shroud today. I still have to weld up the corners and router the fan hole, but I think it turned out decent.

here is my 50 with 3" drop on the rear and 3 1/2" above frame. i goy ahold of some buckets from a yukon denali. cut out the seat riser so as i could resale it. considering suicide doors but not sure yet.

i am going to use the frame mount peddle. i mocked up a mid 70's camaro one but chose to keep firewall clean. i am still on mockup but it will work.

you know what ever kind of bracket it is that holds the running boards on how long are they what kind of metal do you have some kind of drawing of them

i am just using a 1'" tubing and 45 the front 2". then gusset the top where it meets the frame. havent built them yet obviously will do it this week before dismantleling for frame paint . email me at bz992071@msn.com i will send pics and plans when i get them.

After lowering the cab mounts, I had to hump for the tranny. Cut and bent up a little 16 gauge. Currently, I have it welded to the transmission cover and bolted to the fire wall, making it removable. Should I weld it all or is it ok to leave it this way?

If it were me, I'd just silicone it. Add some sound deading mat and carpet. You never know what lies down the road. You might have to remove it someday.

sgtusmc, I was hoping you'd say that. I'm not totally sure, but removable seems to make sense if I have to get at it down the road. I still have a ton of holes to weld up, but the plan is to rhino line the floor and bottom of the cab - then carpet or something. Not sure yet. I've been watching your build, you do fine work. I wish I was as far as you.

i haven't started on my swap yet but i have made my cab mounts. i used that diagram you posted . is the bottom of the frame even with the bottom of the runnin boards? i 'm puttin my 48 on a bagged s10 frame and i would like it to layout with the runnin boards flat on the ground.:metal:

removable is ok, but you hardly ever need to acess the top of an auto trans. welding would make it a little more solid. looking good.

junkman1jmc, my best guess, if you are putting it on my original measurements, would be no. The bottom of the running boards would be about 2+ inches off the ground if you are "laying frame". I really don't know because my truck was never going to be that low. Just mess with your mock up to see where you like it.

50adrod - thanks for the compliment. I'm going to weld/capture the nuts on the back of the firewall for now. If it looks like crap, I'll weld the hump down.

just an update. i cut the front horns and fitted the sheetmetal. made me nervouse measured 20 times before i cut.

I finished up my steering linkage, and thought I would share. The best part was that I reused most of the stuff I had in the garage - total cost =$25. I started by dismantling the stock s-10 steering column. This gave me the double D tubing and double D shaft. I went to u-pick-it yard and got the intermediate shaft from a 1985 c-10 van. This is what I started with:

Separte the van shaft and cut the stock s-10 steering column into the three pieces shown. I jointed the lower van u-joint with the double D shaft using the double D tubing. I used 1/4" plug welds to joint the three pieces. These are what you should have at this point.

Slide the bearing onto the stock '51 shaft and cap the end with the end piece from the s-10 column. I drilled both and set it with a 1/4" grade 5 bolt.

hey Jeff, I couldn't help but notice your brake master cylinder and proportional valve. Its tight up against the inner fender wall. I used the one out of an '82 camaro that I had around and the master cylinder lines come out of the other side so your proportional valve isn't sitting on the inner fender wall.

Nice catch on the P valve. It is a tight squeeze. I didn't think anyone looked that hard. My plan all along has been to relocate it. Whether on the frame or lower on the firewall, I'm not sure, but it wasn't going to be stock. I might have to rethink it if it is as easy as getting a Camaro P valve. Thanks for the info. Hope your build is going well.

so im trying to get some ideas what kind of wiring harness are you guys using i thought about an s10 blazer dont know how the gauges are going to hook up

i am just usin an after market autowire harness. depending on how mant acc you will have either a 12 or 21 circiut run you around 150.00 plus depending on brand.

i'm going to get an 8 fuse block from summit and make my own harness. i use to do it for a living (build wiring harnesses), and i don't want a bunch of extra wires dangling around. any relay that i might/will need i'm just going to screw under the dash close to the fuse box.

I will help out as much as I can. I've put the truck on the back burner for now. It's funny how fast time slips away. We had just had our second child when I brought the truck home November of 2007. He is now 2+ years old. Since then, we gave him a little sister as well. So our family is maxed out with three soon to be wrench benders (I hope). Our now five year old asks all the time to work on the truck, but it seems I have to tell him no more than "get your cover-alls on first".

As far as the truck goes, I'll continue to work on the small stuff when I can. I will always answer any questions, or give my limited advice when asked. You guys give me tons of inspiration, so I'll be checking in from time to time. If I can help and you don't want to post, you can always PM me.
