Re: Project 1972

Today I jacked up the bed to work on the cab corners. I removed the gas tank it looks like with holes in the cab corners some critters have been behind the tank.

Thanks, Lucas. I am trying to do a good job without taking the whole truck apart.

Installed the gas tank with new sender and new hoses and clamps. I have been looking for a better drivers door, I have looked at quite a few and they all need work so I guess I will just start repairing the one I have.

Finding a good drivers door is tough! Although finding one better than your original should be do-able, may still require some work.
Keep up the great work!

Re: Project 1972

I finished with the cab corners, all cab supports are done. In another thread I showed how I took the bed off be myself so I could paint the back of the cab. I am going to go ahead and paint the door jams to. Sprayed some black epoxy and some gray primer. Tomorrow I will spray the color. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...psnxpkkgba.jpg

I have the same color and it's in about the same shape as what you started with. Is the green the exact color match from the factory or one of your own selection? Love the work so far and I'm jealous!

Hey Thanks. The color is the exact match. I have compared it to the fire wall and other places on the truck and it is real close. Thanks

Re: Project 1972

Back in high school (early 80's) I had a '71 this color, but being young & foolish...sold it. When I found the '72 I have now with the same color scheme, I just had to have it. I may have to quiz you when I get to tearing into mine. Great job so far, keep it up.

While I have the bed off I thought I would clean up the rear frame. I wire brushed and sanded everything and wiped it all down with some paint thinner and painted it.

Repairing the rusted part of the bed. To me this was the ugliest part of my truck. I bought the bed patch from one of the forum members. Still have a lot of welding to finish this project.

Sound deadener was probably my favorite upgrade to my cab. So much nicer to ride in now

Taking my time welding the bed patch on. Today I cut the bottom off of the drivers door and I got the bottom piece tacked in. I think it turned out real good.

It is looking great, did your door patches line up goid or did you have to do a lot of fab work? Love the color scheme to :chevy:

Larry, They lined up good. I just had to tap in a sharper crease in a few areas to match the door.
