It has the 5.3 and it's an auto. It's stock, I'd like to put dual exhaust, tires/wheels and a modified PCM; only problem is the price of gas is killing me and hindering my modification plan ;)

Nice 99 :D

If you go with the right exhaust, PCM tune, etc you can gain a little MPG at the same time

Gene 07-07-2005 11:56 AM

I have a 99 Chevy Z-71, the 5.3 with 83k on it still has tons of power. Leather and just about everything else. Got rid of a brand new Titan with 6k on it for this truck and this truck blows the Nissan away in quality even after 6 years and 83k miles!

ChevyDude 07-07-2005 12:21 PM

I have an 05' 4x4 Colorado and a 71' C-10. Love them both!!!

I've seen before where exhaust systems claim better mpg as well as some hand held programmers and PCM tunes. However, which combo? so many choices, so little money :)

cochran63 07-07-2005 07:07 PM

on my truck I have one of the crappy hypertec programmers, a k&n and a borla muffler. Out of the three I think the filer and muffler gave the most bang for the buck. Plus with paper filters costing around 15 it deosnt take very long for a k&n to pay for itself.

I know. There are a few guys on www.fullsizechevy.com that know tuning and exhaust inside and out.
I went with a Flowmaster 50 single in, dual out with the factory diameter tails. They dump similar to a Buick GN style.

I still run the antiquated Hypertech Power Programmer III (HPP3). When I bought it, the custom tunes were no where as cheap as they are today.

My 99 chevy 1/2 swb 2wd with a 4.8 auto with 13xxxx miles on pulls my car hauler all the time, I pulled a 71 K5 blazer, a 74 Nova, 9x Caravan, and had the trailer fully loaded when I went to the swap meet. It pulls it just fine, just not quickly. I really dislike the newer trucks because of all the computers and sensor and just BS that can go wrong, but the way the tow/haul mode changes shift point and locks up the torque converter and locks out overdrive (?) (never really paid attention to wether there way 3 or 4 gears when I was hauling) totally amazes me. And for that I give it a thumbs up. Question, I know I drive mine hard, but I average 14 1/2 mpg driving and a little over 12 mpg hauling. What does everyone else get. All that is done mechanicly is the muffler was cut off and a 3" flowmaster 2 chamber 40 series with a dump was put on. Nothing else though....

cochran63 07-08-2005 11:19 PM

I averaged 16.5 mpg pulling a car with a big 4x4 fourwheeler in the bed, but just normal driving I get between 18 and 21.

Gene 07-21-2005 04:50 PM

I get 16.5 city/highway no matter how i'm driving with the 5.3.

Here's my girl. She's an '05 2500HD with the 6.0 and nv4500. One of VERY few of its kind. I had to look long and hard to find one with a stick that wasn't totally stripped down. I have since taken the trim and fender flares off and got a Line-X spray in bedliner for it, also a custom tune from wait4me performance. Up next is some good exhaust.

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado K1500 Z71 Reg. Cab Sportside. Pewter Metallic! Its the LS package with lots of bells and wistles. Its a regular cab sportside it looks sharp. It has the 5.3L Vortec with the 4L60-E with an autotrac electronic transfercase. It has 4.10 gears with factory tow package. It has Captains seats with true console, like the extended cabs. They are awsome seats, but the suck because you can only sit two people. It has 110000, highway miles, it still runs like a champ and gets 18mpg!!! I love that truck!!! Its like a cadilac compaired to my old '74 1/2ton 2wd swb. This thing rides so nice, esp for a SWB truck. Well I will quite my ranting and go to bed.

tommygfunk 09-29-2005 11:17 PM

Well I have a 2000 x-cab that I picked up for $11,589 at the wheeling gaming resorts big dealer show case. She has a 4.8, auto and is loaded. The odometer said 52,026 at purchase. We took her on her first big trip down to New Orleans La. We took a doctor, his truck, and his supplies down to assist in the relief effort.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y6/...2/Sep19312.jpg this pic was at the Mississippi welcome center. The Silverado ran like a dream.

I have started to “KUSTOM” her out with little things and once everything settles I hope to start on her paint.
