Anyone know of any good ones in the Northwest Arkansas area that will take custom work? The majority of body shops I have talked to all want to do insurance work.

I just read your whole thread and didn't catch that you were from Bella Vista until the end. So, hello neighbor! I met a guy in Rogers at a local show this summer with a very nice Chevelle that had been restored at Old Town Body Shop in downtown rogers. He was really happy with their timeliness and quality.

Well, hey there neighbor! Thanks for the tip on the body shop. I'll definitely give them a call.

You going to Bikes Blues and BBQ's cars how this weekend? If so, thought I'd look for your truck!

Where you get your filler plates for the firewall and gas cap hole from?

I got them from Infanti Rides and Machine on Ebay. Here is a link to his storefront: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Infanti72__W0QQ_armrsZ1

I highly highly highly recommend him. I have bought all my patch pieces from him and the quality, speed, and price are excellent! I believe he is a board member too, but can't confirm for sure.

Thanks, Heath! I'm envious everytime I see you post an update on your thread. I love to see progress!! And our truck is a father/son project too, but in this case, I'm the son!

Alright, time for a long overdue update. I've been too lazy to organize and upload pics.....

So, I decided to get some more stuff done prior to paint. I've been working on radiator fitment, cleaning of underside of cab and bed, and frame prep and paint... Originally, I was going to have the frame all done, but soaring costs = motivation to tackle it myself.

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...s/100_0374.jpg

This isn't the final fitment. I still need to get a photo of that. We elected to remove the bottom brackets so it sits further down in the core support. It still rides on the stock rubber retainers too. Worked pretty slick. We will be building a custom brushed bracket/cover for the top instead of using the stock retainers. Will shoot pics as soon as we get it built. Probably will be after paint.

I bet a few of you have been in this exact same position. Or this one...

The only bad spot in the cab (and my wife's contribution):

Only one coat of primer on the frame so far. It was really too cold to be doing too much. Will have to move the operation inside the garage. Fun fun!!!

Oh, and guys, never let your wife pick out the gloves.....

I stopped by the body shop while I was out running some errands yesterday. They had taken the front clip off (all one piece now because of the welded in roll pan) and were boxing in the front frame since it had to be shortened for the front roll pan. Windshield and back glass were out too. I plan to stop back by there sometime next week. Should see a lot of progress then. They still had a pretty extensive welding list left since the previous body shop guy didn't finish what we hired him to do. Here's the shots from yesterday..

Thanks! It's getting pretty bad when every night I dream about something going wrong with the paint or the welding, etc. Maybe I'm a little stressed. :thud:

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Two steps forward and one step back. Had to get the truck soda blasted. A lot of bad body work via PO. Must have done it himself. There was even Brass in the top of the bed and in the cab corners. That dates the work a bit.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

The bondo was at least an inch thick over the majority of the left bedside. And there really wasn't any good reason for it. We learned a valuable lesson in trying to save money....just have it blasted if you don't know what is underneath. It would have saved us a ton to have done it that way in the first place. If you know what's under your paint/primer and are comfortable with it, then no need. But if you are like us, go ahead and get it blasted early. I would have just replaced that bedside if I would have known what all was in it. I thought I was saving $600 bucks by keeping it when in reality it will cost well more than that in repairs and time.

This did the trick (that and a big wad of green money):
