Re: Ole Rusty-86 3/4 4WD
Moody, I have a problem on my 81 3/4 ton. I looked at the glovebox and there is no sign of an RPO list or a sign of one ever being there. Is there anyway that I can have the VIN and Serial # ran and find out what it has, or anyway I can find out any info on what it had originally? Or, can you email me a list of all the possible RPO's for a 1981 Scottsdale C20? My email is lylerawson@mchsi.com.

I hope that shows up as a link if it doesn't let me know. It is the complete list of gm rpo codes. You can always type in "GM RPO codes into any search engine and come up with something |
Re: Ole Rusty-86 3/4 4WD
What is the best way to prep and paint a frame with chassis saver? Or would I be better off with POR15? I get the wire brush it down part, but most of the brackets and cross members are ribbeted in, so its hard to clean all the frame. Do I need to get some sand and sand blast parts I cant clean with a wire brush? Or what, Im kinda dumb founded on the best way to go at this. I dont mind working hard cause that will just make me appreciate the truck better in the long run. So any tips or walk-throughs on this?

Re: Ole Rusty-86 3/4 4WD
What is the bracket that the motor mount bolts in to called? The one on the frame, mine is cracked and broken beyond belief and I would replace it instead of weld it, but if I have to I will weld it.
|
Re: Ole Rusty-86 3/4 4WD
This has nothing to do with the frame, but I gotta a guy that is wanting to trade me a TH350 for my TH400, what is the pros and cons of both transmissions? I got a TH350 in my 91 right now and I like it, never dealt with a TH400.
|
Re: Ole Rusty-86 3/4 4WD
Is there any thing wrong with your 400? Also a 2 wheel drive 350 will not work in a 4x4. Why does he want to trade you the 350?

Re: Ole Rusty-86 3/4 4WD
I honestly dont know but I told him no, for a lot fo reasons but the main one is he dont know what condition the trans he has is in. I know my tranny is good, Ive drove the truck, so I know it dont slip, and what not.

Re: Ole Rusty-86 3/4 4WD
I got a little bit done, Im using Menace121978 build as motivation and ideas on how I want mine to look, except mines 4WD. But here are some pics of the progress I got so far, money is tight as I work part time at Wendys.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ess/001-11.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...ress/003-9.jpg As you can see I only got part of one side done, still needs another coat. |
Re: Ole Rusty-86 3/4 4WD
Nice build. You did a great job to the frame. Which product did you end up going with?
As far as your axle questions. The spring perches appear just fine. The driver side perch is welded onto the tube, while the passenger side is actually cast into the center section. It appears you have an 8-lug 12-bolt front, but I could be wrong. The center section looks too rounded off to be a Dana axle (either 44 or 60). I assume the GM axles have a similar spindle nut you will need to remove in order to remove the hub, rotor. The sockets are only $10, and I'd highly recommend getting the one that works for this application. You may be able to tear it down with a screwdriver and a hammer, but you won't be abe to torque it down to the correct spec with one. I've rebuilt a junkyard front Dana 60 before, and I would recommend looking into getting inner and outer axle seals and replacing the kingpins since you have it all apart. Also, you may want to replace the axle u-joints since you're in there and make sure the ears on the axle shafts themselves are not spreading. Later, Jon D. |
Re: Ole Rusty-86 3/4 4WD
Nah its a GM 10 bolt, I counted the bolts on it. But as for getting the rotors and stuff off, I cant get the gear to slide of like it should. I got the inner and outter snap rings off and from what I read it should just slide off, the inner gear looking think anyway. Ive been trying to find me a good book on it but aint found one yet.
