G'day 806,
I just thought that I'd better let you know how much of an inspiration your crewcab has been for the start of my project and to say thankyou! It would be nice to see an update though. Have been checking in on this for some time now and are desperate to know how its coming along. Love the stance and the proportions look really sharp.

Progress?

Anyone out there have a crew cab 47-54 Chevy truck for sale?

Anyone want to give me a bid on building one?

I don't have the patience, time, or skills to build it but this is my dream vehicle!

I think he only gets to work on it on weekends so his progress is rather sporadic. But then I only get weekends to work on things and my project is 35 ft out the back door of the house.

I keep looking at the 51 1-1/2 ton cab and chassis I have sitting out in the driveway and that it sure would make good crew cab flatbed to tow with. One project at a time I keep telling myself.

Oh yeah that is cool, Mr Pops! Love what they have done with the doors. Very interesting. I'm wondering if you have any more detail shots on what they did with door jams?

Regards,

Trently.

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???

SolidAxel,

Good looking truck, but I'm in need of a crew cab to haul my wife and kids in. I have two 3 window trucks that are nearly street ready, both are subframed 350/350 etc.

I have been contemplating cutting them up and making one crew but I think they are too nice as-is to cut up for this. Plus, as mentioned above, I lack the skills and patience for such a feat.

Anyone have a 47-53 Crew Cab, Quad Cab, 4-door Chevy truck for sale?

I am interested in the standard pickup cabs that have been converted to 4-door (like the green one posted in this thread or a COE like those two blue trucks in the earlier photos.

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???

For those that are doing the extended cab (I'm starting soon hopefully) the door skins have the same compound curves as the roof. That helps keep from having to flat of a roof with just putting sheet metal over it.

solidaxel 12-28-2012 09:37 AM

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???

When we cut our two cabs in half we cut the roofs on both trucks long from the vertical cut and then slipped them together until it looked "right" then cut the excess from the roof and butt welded the seam. I never thought about the door skins for a patch.
I did use a lot of door skin for other patches, "just the right thickness"

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???

Yours sure turned out nice doing it that way.
Another thing I'm looking at is an extended cab as yours is but to widen the door so no blind spot in the corner. I think it's just a matter of giving the hinges more support for the extra weight. Suicide doors also.
I'm just getting back into customizing now that the kids are gone. In the 60s and 70s I did a fair amount of 50s style work. Chopped a few tops, frenched headlights, etc. Not sure how far I'll go with this but the enthusiasm is back and running high now.

That looks like one of those cabs that the RR used to use for servicing track. It could go forwards or reverse and had wheels that rode on the tracks. You changed directions and just changed sides in the cab.

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???

In case I screw it up from before. I made a mistake by mentioning an item I had for sale. My mistake. Sorry, live and learn. Thanks for the info on the black 4x4 50 model crew cab. It gives my an idea how to go about such a project.
