Yeah, I was talking with him, the problem is he is no where near a shipper, about 1.5-2 hours out. He wanted me to see about freighting it to me and I arrange everything. The shipping was going to be way too expensive.

Or does anyone have the two sides of a big window cab? This will save on shipping. I can graft these sections into my small window cab.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Qad Cab)

Alright, keep on going.... got the sides of the step plates installed, well one and a half. Bent the metal and welded it into the Dodge cab. The steps will be shorter and narrower than the factory 57's steps.

Driver's side rear step plate completely installed.

Passenger side half way welded, there is two inner panels on the Dodge cab corners, one is welded in this pic.

And shown with the cab B-pillar installed on them.

I haven't forgotten about ya Mike. I might be cutting out the back of the brown cab tomorrow, if the weather allows me, supposed to be raining tomorrow and I don't do anything here when it rains. But I'm hoping to get the front main cab (brown) mounted to the firewall shortly.

:gi: but, what's with the vent window in the back door, and it being small window, stepside, and single wheel.

I love this thread! I love the fleetside box, but also have a weekness for a longbox stepside box on lifted 1 tons. This is actually something I've been contemplating ever since I bought my 58 Suburban last year. It needs 1/4 panels (which I can't find anywhere) so I was thinking of cutting it in half to make a 2 door crewcab. I would consider a cummins chassis with front coils and rear discs etc..

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Qad Cab)

Mr. Pops how about replacing the quarters with some newer dually fenders and rearend? Not the ones that look like they are bolted on but the newer ones intergrated into the wide beds. You could tub it a bit so they don't stick out too far.

Addidicted this is looking good.

That could be interesting. I prefer body mods that look stock to someone who doesn't know the vehicle, like making a body/chassis combination that wasn't available from factory while using factory parts. I was thinking of doing something similar to what you're saying for my 1966 Ext cab project, I was thinking of making it into a dually using a longbox fleetside and integrating 55-66 stepside fenders to make it a dually..

Not too much progress to share, I got the firewall of the front cab plasma'd out today.

Compared to the Dodge firewall:

If I can find a big window cab, or parts I will continue on. Until then I am at a halt. Don't get me wrong, I am searching far and low. I have one person near me with a big window cab. Waiting to hear back from him on a price, hopefully it isn't too bad.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Qad Cab)

Oh my god! I've been searching for two years for a big window cab and today I located two of them. One is about an hour from me and is a good clean bare cab for $300. The other is here in my city for $250 but I can't see it (long story). The one here is a cab with doors and back glass but has some cancer around the back window. Decisions! Which one do I buy!!!

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Qad Cab)

Been watching this thread as I think this will be a great looking truck when done.
If it was me I would buy the cleaner cab as you would probably spend more time and money fixing the one with the cancer.

That's what I was figuring, wish I could just see it to assess the situation. I was thinking I might by the cab further from me and see if I can buy just the glass from the local guy.

That did go through my head but I just don't have the room for both. Anyone else need a big window cab?

I'm with diesel - get them both. Then sell the one you decide to not use.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Qad Cab)

The cab closest to me needs a lot of help. There is quite a bit of rust through above the back window, also I noticed someone started drilling the spot welds at the lower of the back window.

I'm thinking I'm gonna go with the cleaner cab further from me.

Yes I did, I'll call him if I don't have any luck with the two here locally. We'll find out tomorrow evening. Thank you for the number though!
