Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
Loud! I love loud!
I was wondering if you had done any research on what belt you are going to use on your serpentine set-up with out your AIR pump. May I recomend Dayco 698K6. I researched the AIR pump delete and that is what someone else came up with. |
Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
Great job on the build so far and yes that motor was clean on the inside! I like the direction you are headed.

Cool build, I can totally relate to the budget build. Fix what you have when possible and make it work.
I have a few guitars, basses and a drum kit also, the whole extended family plays one thing or another. You have some nice stuff! |

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
Not much has gotten done since I put on the brake booster set-up.
I got a SS brake line set from Inline Tube and as my luck would have it... It no worky... My sales rep Don was a big help working with me via phone and e-mail with technical issues I ran into, but, alas the old saying goes... If ya' want something done right you gotta' do it yourself... Mind you that there was really nothing wrong with the line set and I am sure it would fit very well on a stock truck... but a stock truck I have not... Its like that old Johnny Cash song, "One piece at a time." 67 Frame, 68 cab, 72 rearend, 85 front crossmember and a CPP brake & booster set-up... Certainly not stock... So I wasted 2 weeks trying to get the set to work only to have to return it. :banghead: Went to NAPA bought straight lines in the lengths & sizes needed and got 'em all bent, run, tightened and clamped down in one day. Live and learn the hot rod way I suppose... I have no pics to post and besides, brake lines are boring... Maybe that's why I fell asleep under the truck... |
Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
NAPA has lines that are pre-flared with the fittings on the ends already.
No cut, no flare, no problem... Its almost as easy as a Snap-Tite model kit... Just not nearly as much fun and it takes a little longer to complete the job... |

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
With all the cold weather we had here in H-Town, not much has happened out in the garage...
I have been finding a few tid-bits here and there to help Frankien-Truck feel more like the monster it has become... I found one of these 15 gallon fuel cells from BD Racing on flea-bay... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...k/FuelCell.jpg That will hook up to the Fram HPG1 fuel filter... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...k/FramHPG1.jpg From there we will travel over to Miss Holley Blue... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...HolleyBlue.jpg A little further down the line it runs into Mallory #4309... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...ck/By-pass.jpg A hop and skip later it will meet Mallory's liquid filled cousin... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...ssureGauge.jpg Then it will combine into another Holley item filtered by this 14X4... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...AirCleaner.jpg Then it will exit out rather loudly through a pair of Flow's... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...ruck/Flows.jpg The weather has warmed up, so I am looking forward to getting some stuff done soon... I'll keep ya'll posted... |

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
I had a few days away from work and was able to get a couple things done to Frankien-Truck...
I picked up one of those Sun Pro three gauge sets @ a swap meet a while back. I don't really care for the look of those things just hanging under the dash like most guys mount them, So... I decided to make them kinda' look like the factory ones do... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture005.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture007.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture008.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture021.jpg I haven't decided which gauge to put in the fourth hole yet... I might put in an ammo gauge for the 50 cal. that will be installed @ a later date... Dunno... |
Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
They definitely look better there than under the dash. That was the first thing I did in two of my trucks (remove the under dash gauges)
No offense to guys who like them...just not my style.... |
Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
I got the brake lines finished and had my friend help me bleed them out...
I also put the steering column back in place... So, since it could stop and steer, we rolled her out of the garage... It was the first time out since July 4th of 2010... She looks so small out in the street, but then again my garage is tiny... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture034.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture037.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture028.jpg This was all in preparation for the next hurdle... Daddy's Little helper was getting more than a little eager for the next step... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture051.jpg |
Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
Just like The Beatles said...
I get by with a little help from my friends... Scott, Choppa Chip, Dan, & Larry... Thank You... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture062.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture083.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...Picture082.jpg Still have some "finishing touches" to do... but the hard (and heavy) part has been achieved... |
