Here's a shot of my rear bumper after they cut it out & installed the new reverse LED lights. It's still not re-powdercoated, so it'll look a lot better when it's finished. Also I have new taillight covers for it with all LED bulbs like the rest of the truck which will look really good.

Looking good! Bend that tie rod and you have bigger problems....

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

BTW - now they get to start on installing a late model Blazer fuel door into the rear right side of my bed, modifying the bed floor to clear the filler neck & then filling the two exisiting fuel filler holes already in the bed. Truck is a LOOOOOOONG way from being finished, but still hoping for June!

Finally here's a shot of the unfinished front fuel tank crossmember. Don't mind the yucky looking bed underside - it'll be getting stripped & re-undercoated at the same time the cab does. And yes, the rear axle is still awaiting powdercoat since not everything back there is finalized...

I was wondering what my rims would look like black with the polished ring, I would love to see that. Great looking build

Thanks for all the great comments!!! The shop building it is closed this week for the King of the Hammers race, so nothing's getting done unfortunately... Hopefully will have something more to post next week on it!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

So... I'd like to hear anyone's opinion on the STS remote turbo systems. Pros/Cons - Likes/Dislikes. Want an extra "power adder" & I am thinking of adding one to my truck & think it'd make it an even nicer driver given its weight. My rear toolbox will be big enough that I could have the air intake run up into it with a custom air box & all. Waiting to hear back from my engine tuner to get his thoughts to, so this is in the VERY early planning!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

I have never had one of these on the truck, but in my opinion, I would not want a turbocharger hanging down below a truck that sees anything but pavement use. The oil lines could cripple you, and the chance of damaging ($$$$) the turbo with dirt, or an impact from a flying rock would be a downside. I would opt for a supercharger if you need a power adder. Maybe something like this?

Thanks for the input! Also considering doing a stroker kit, cam & some better heads to maintain an overall stock look. Still VERY early in the planning of all this engine mod stuff, so a little ways to go before finalizing anything!

Ok, so it's looking like I may go with this supercharger kit from Trick Flow with the black powdercoated compressor. WIll also upgrade the engine with a LS valvetrain kit & a double-roller timing set. We'll see what happens.

Very cool. That should be a good combo with the NV4500. Does it have an air/water aftercooler?

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Yes it does - it's in the pic with the license frame hanging on it. I am waiting to hear back the engine guy that the tuner recommended on some other parts I want to go in the engine as well as how we are gonna tune it, so will keep the updates comin'. Trevor & the guys are back from the King of the Hammers race, so the wrenches should be turning again!!!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, the grand supercharger dream is now kaput.... After many a conversation & realizing that we still needed ALL the electronics & related accessories I decided that it would just get WAY too expensive to go with the supercharger & still have to buy all that crap...
Anyway, I decided to go with a new Mast Motorsports LY6 HO 6.0L that already has upgraded cam & springs plus it makes 480HP to boot! The best part is that it comes with ALL harnesses, ECM, pedal assembly & basically all the other goodies to make it work for me!

Bedside is cut out & all the new sheet metal should be getting welded in tomorrow as well as the old fill holes getting filled. Will hopefully be getting some additional pics to post by the end of the week, so be on the lookout for them!!!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, ordered an onboard air kit for my truck last night so I can have air whenever I need it. It's from Firestone & it's got a 3 gallon tank they'll have to mount up. Also working on getting a LED light bar from Vision X installed on the lower cross brace of the front puch bar their gonna be fab'ing up for me. No pics today, but should have a few early next week of the bed side fuel door weld up.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Cool!

Are you going to use a round fuel door?
I have been considering a 88-98 fuel door on mine, but I'll probably just stick with a square door.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Nope, no round door. Since my truck is the early body style I just didn't think it would look right & was a little to "modern"... We went with a fuel door off of a K5 Blazer - it's the standard square door, but already set up for the right side behind the wheel well. Believe it or not, Brendon Thompson is the one that's gonna be welding it all in for the shop. If you follow American Chopper you've seen him working at Paul Jr's shop - he lives up near Auburn though & is into rock crawling & that's how he knows Trevor & Beau. Like I said, hopefully will have pics of it all by Tuesday of next week, but we'll see.

What color did you use on your truck??? Mine's gonna be white as well, but have yet to lock in a color really...

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

my truck isn't painted yet...as of now it is calico....blue, black, gray, and mostly gray primer. I'm leaning heavily toward converting it to 4x4 and painting it snow camo.
you and every one of the other 4x4 crews are inspiring me ;)

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Oh, ok - was judging off your avatar pic... I am leaning mostly towards GM Summit White that they used on almost EVERY GM pickup forever! For the black rallye stripes & side pin stripes however they are gonna need to find a semi-gloss color that matches my powdercoated items - will also go on the LMC grille insert.

A little change of pace to break up the norm. Here's a few pics of a "modified" square body CUCV over here in Afghanistan - was WAY redneck-ified!!! Hehe
Also some shots of some of the cooler vehicles I get to tinker with! The little one was built by an off road place in Utah - there were 3 of them here. It was pretty cool with a GM 6.2L diesel, TH400 trans, remote shocks & Dana 60's front & rear from Dynatrac.
